I have been using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter for about a month now, done about 100 copies or so. I use Fuji Film(Made in Japan) dics and a new NEC burner. Burn at 4x. I was wondering if anyone does a deep analysis even if they compression is at 100%(no compression used).

When I click perform deep analysis it says, "Analysis of this DVD is not necessary, because either no compression was applied, or the compressed parts have already been fully anaylsed. Are you sure you want to continue?"

I know when you are at anthing below 75-80% you should run deep anaylsis, so it will improve the quality(if you have the time), but does anyone see any differences doing a deep analysis on a dvd that has no comression applied to it? Also, is there any downside to doing a deep analysis on a dvd that has no compression?

Thanks guys!

Check out this thread for an explanation of Deep Analysis:

Is the disc a dual layer, or have you just removed enough material to require no compression?

If you have no compression,then you have a 1:1 copy and no enhancements are needed.The compression tab will read 100 which means no compression.That option should be grayed out!

The deep analysis mode as well as adaptive error compensation options should both be grayed out in the quality settings tab in the backup options for uncompressed backups. I haven't seen that message.It shouldn't even offer those options on uncompressed dvds.That's a new one on me,but when it comes to backing up dvds,anything is possible.

Compressed or uncompressed, you still have the option to tick backup in low priority mode for multi-tasking which I do on all my backups.Only takes a couple minutes longer.

Thanks for the link, the article did explain things better. It is not a dual layer disc, once in a while I will get DVD that I take out the credits and all the languages and ends up with a 1:1.

To answer the other question, the box is greyed out when I click back-up, but when I click Deep Analysis on the re-author menue, I am able to click, continue anyways.

After reading the article I will always use deep analysis, if I have the time, just to ensure the backup. I have a fast computer so it only takes 6-10 min to do a deep anaylsis anyways.

Thanks guys for your help!

10% compression or higher,I use it
20% compression or higher,I use it along with Max sharpness in the adaptive error compension
30%+ Both and Max smoothness instead of Max sharpness.

@essex

That is pretty fast.

@saugmon

About the smoothness and sharpness settings...can you explain or point me to a link about the end results and benefits of each of those settings. I guess what I'm trying to say is "what the hell do they do?"

I posted some replies a while back to your question about quality enhancements on a thread about that subject - they may or may not be of help. There is probably better stuff on "Digital Video Forums."

Perhaps this thread could be of some assistance to decide which AEC setting is right for you: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=56187

Thanks for the links...both were helpful.

I guess my confusion came from other threads that I had read about using this setting if the movie is dark or using that setting if it is light or another setting if there is a lot of animation.

Thanks for the replies.
