I have a Sony Video Recorder/DVD Recorder that says in the quick guide that a DVD-RWvr's are the disk to use if you want maximum capabiliities to all the features the recorder offers. BUT, I can't find any to buy. The only thing I am finding is that they don't play on all players, etc.

Any thoughts.

I believe they are talking about vr mode. Some stand alone players can't play that mode. Then you'll have to use the video mode instead.

You have Dvd +r/+rw/-r/ -rw and dvd ram when it comes to blank media for home burners.dvd ram is rarer in them. Not too many models offer that option.

Just a tip, when it comes to rw media,I have found stand alones have a harder time recognizing rws compared with the rs.The rws are great to mess around with, but compatability will be an issue on stand alones. That is also true with pc dvd burning. Some of those stand alone players will have trouble reading plus/dash r and rw.Nothing is guaranteed when it comes to playing backups on stand alones.

I have a Sony DVD recorder, and all I use are DVD+RWs. They are Ritek Ridata, but I've also used Memorex and HP. The -RWs have better editing features, but they won't play on other non-Sony DVD players. The DVD+RWs will. I can also edit DVD+RWs, but only simple things like erasing a program or deleting a part of one (A-B erase). Stick with +RWs, and as long as they are a major brand like Maxell, Fuji, or Memorex, they will work fine.
P.S.: Also, with DVD-RWs, you must finalize the disc before it is readable on another player. You don't have to finalize DVD+RWs and they are redy as soon as you take them out after recording.
