about... 4-5 months ago most of the good games went dvd9... probably longer ago than that. and they had some kind of security or something extra, that stopped you from ripping them.
at the time noone knew how to get around it.
could someone please point me to the programs that have recently come out?
The protection is in the IOPRP image files(at the time the PS2 had a problem reading DVD9 games,so Toxic figured out a solution to make it where the PS2 could read them),Toxic released a patching program for this.Patching the IOPRP image and finding the table inside the munge files to extract them allows you to rip the game down to DVD5,you will have to look at creating a ripkit for PS2,understand LBA(Logical Block Address) for munge files an so forth.A good program to look at is called Kitmagician made by Neness you can find it here http://www.alucard.cc there are more tools to help out also.It is an awesome program to use for ripping PS2 games.There is a guide to Understanding LBA made by Elchininet also which is very helpfull and gives you some information and direction to using kitmagician.If you know how to make batch files this will help you out also,if not this is another thing to look at.Just read as much as possible the guides from PS2ModZ Paradise and it will help you out a bunch.If a ripkit doesn't exist for a certain DVD9 game then just make a request in the PS2 forums and we will help you out.
As LiquidusX mentioned there are not alot of DVD9 games for the PS2.Most of the time they are DVD5,and sometimes not all the time they must be decreased in size by rebuilding only the ISO section.
