if you had to get one of these two, which one would you go for and why?... hope noone minds this question, i'm about to get one of them and want to hear some opinions first. thank you.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

elizerroj,
You have to choose what you need. For me I will choose clonedvd2.
Becos clonedvd2 is a very good software with constant update.
clonedvd2 + AnyDVD = Perfect. When copying dvd, clonedvd2 so far has the highest speed, faster than DVD Shrink.
If you need to convert AVI or XviD file to dvd file (vob) you need recode2 or other softwares to do it. If you need to convert VCD files to dvd files or via versus Nero recode2 can do it for you too.
Like I said it depends on your preferences.

my vote is for recode II, its made by the same person who made shrink, so in a sence its an updated faster shrink with more reauthoring options, i do like CloneDVD 2 and still use it but mostly for splitting an episode dvd , like season 2 of family guy into 2 separate dvd's
to my eye movies backed up by recode II just look better and have fewer pixalation problems than do those produced by CloneDVD 2
however the best method but the slowest is using dvdrebuilder with the hc encoder, just leave your computer on overnight and in the morning you will have a great copy that you can burn with imgburn ( a free burn program made by the same person who made dvd decrypter), if you do get dvdrebuilder make sure you get the pro version the extra features are worth it, there is a free version as well.

Nero Recode 2 hands down!! I primarily encoded all of my dvd movies with Nero Recode 2 with "Advanced Analysis" and loving it -- yep, the results are truly awesome.

I backed up Star Wars III: Revenge Of The Sith using DVD Decrypter to rip, and encoded it with Nero Recode 2 (Nero 7 Ultra Edition) to do "Advanced Analysis" [this will encode the movie twice, but worth the times - it took me 40 mins for 2 passes], and finally burned with Nero Burning Rom (Nero 7 Ultra Edition).

I take out all of the foreign subs and languages, except the English 5 Ch (with everything) and it was 62%. In the end, I couldn't tell the differences between the original dvd and my backup on a Yuden 8X DVD+R disc when watching it on my 55" Widescreen SONY HDTV.

In the end, it all boils down to the individuals preferences, experiences and perspectives.

I have Recode because it is part of the complete Nero package. If it was sold by itself I wouldn't purchase it because Shrink is FREE (almost the same thing). As I have stated before my first choice is always the Clonedvd/Anydvd combo. Easy to use and has never let me down yet.

alkohol,

I came across a forum here saying that someone has got problems using nero7. Is it true? If is true that means Nero 7 has not stable down yet and all the bugs in it have not been fixed.
What is the point of buying it if the software itself got bugs and have not fixed.

Hi,
Recode2 will only encode certain files format like AVI, mpeg1 and 2
and when comes to rm files it will not encode it.
You will need extra software like winavi or santadvd to do it for you.

My 2 cents ...

I have utilized both Clonedvd2 and Nero recode2 - I do like both of them.(Clonedvd2 is a good program, but im not overly impressed with it).

I definitely prefer Nero Recode2 (I am using version 6, not 7 - I have also heard alot of complaints about version 7) Version 6 is a good version though!

It seems to me - when we watch the backups encoded through Recode2, they seem even clearer than all other programs I have used. There have been plenty of times we have had people over and they thought the tv was on while I have had movies playing that were done in Recode2.

As you can see - many of us are pretty divided because they both are good prgrams - whichever you do choose - I think you will be happy.

Also keep in mind - With Clonedvd2 - you may get a free 21 day trial to use it so that is something you definitely want to take advantage of when making your decison. I am unsure if Recode2 has any free trial period - does anyone know of that or not?

--Alkohol-- it really makes that much of a difference to encode in advanced analysis ... hmm maybe I will try that - I am already prettty happy with the regular way - so now my interest is peaked even more.

@henryting,

It's fine with mine -- I don't know about other members (yes... I've seen people are having issue), but 99% of my dvd movies were encoded by Nero Recode 2 [with Advanced Analysis] and burned with Nero Burning Rom flawlessly. Regardless of what I used, Nero 6 Ultra Edition (6.6.0.16) or the latest Nero 7, it all burns pretty sweet and the quality is awesome - especially with Advanced Analysis.

Hummm... I have never tried RM files before, but why have Nero Recode 2 to encode AVI when you have NeroVision Express to do the job? You need to convert AVI, DivX, XviD with NeroVision first, then if it's too big i.e. over 4.7GB, then from there you can have Nero Recode 2 to encode so it will fit onto a DVD-R/DVD+R disc perfectly.

On the other hand, when it comes to AVI, DivX, XviD, MPEG1/MPEG2, I would rather have VSO DivXToDVD to do the converting job. I'm not saying DivXToDVD is better than NeroVision -- it's just that I have used both and they're both equally the same. However, the choice is yours.

clonedvd2 can preserve your menu together with your main movie.
Just tick preserve menu and you are on your way.
