My question is this, I have some experience using smartripper, DVD2AVI and TMPGENC to get VCD, SVCD and AVI files at about 1-2.5 gigs.
I would like to know what I will have to do to get these movies on one 650mb cdr. I know this will tremendously reduce the quality, but I would like to learn to do it all the same. I now have Backupdvd (and the aforementioned software).
Dell 4550 Winxp 2gh 256mb
Thanks for your help

Download -

1.) DVD Decrypter or smartripper (decrypter is easier, either one works)

2.) DVD2AVI

3.) VirtualDUB

4.)MP3 and DivX Codec
> DIVX.com
5.) DivX Video player

you can Search for guides on how to use these progams on-line on-line

Bottom line, unless it's less than 80 minutes (on 700mb cdr) you will not fit a movie on it that will play in a dvd player. now if you don't care if it plays in a home dvd player, divx can get you down to 1 cd, but it's limited to playing on your computer.

You can create a movie to fit on 1 disk using Eazyvcd. pop in your movie, open eazy up, click xvcd or xsvcd, choose 1 Disk, click ripp it and in a bit you will have 1 file ready to burn. I also use Nero to burn my vcd. Just burned spy kids 2. Look pretty decent. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/eazy_vcd.cfm

thanks Peetis, and the rest of you. took your advice and checked out a software called easydivx. I burnt a movie to 1 cdr 650mb the file came down to about 630mb, and the quality was pretty darned good. In fact, I compared it to a vcd version I had burnt previously, which was a whooping 1.4gigs. There was no noticable difference between the two...except of course that I can't play the divx on a dvd player. But that's fine, coz I don't own one. Thanks!
