Is my DVD player destroying all my movies?

Is it possible that a dvd player can render a DVD unplayable? I have numerous movies that I've purchased that after watching once on my Polaroid compact player, will not play at all even in other machines. When I try to load them in my pc, the disk will just keep spinning and can't seem to be read.

What's more amazing, is when I try to look at the size of the DVD in my pc, it appears as 0.

Is this even possible? I'm lost. No idea.

It mayb b possible that u need to clean the laser or ur portable player soo that it does not damage ur discs...

Make sure u clean the laser ever now and then on all players and writers.

I will definitely check the laser, but even if it is the laser, is it possible for a machine to erase a dvd's contents? I mean, this player is strictly a player, not a writer. And the dvds shouldnt be rewritables... Very strange.

Like I said, when I look at the properties of one of the dvds in my pc, it somes up as empty. Nothing on the disk.

U may have a fualty drive that is damaging and not reading properly. It cant erase the data.

Have u checked if the firmware is up to date?

Thanks for the info. I checked the site, but they dont have my model. Its really frustrating. It's already rendered at least 6 or 7 dvds unreadable. And the thing is, they won't play in any other machines. Needless to say, I've bought a new unit, different make and model, and no problems. But now I need to go back through all of my collection and see how many others arent playable now.

In what way could it be damaging the dvds? Does it ruin the lead in track or something?

Is there a reason why when I insert the dvd in my PC and click on properties, it shows up as blank?

What manifacturer blank DVD media are u using that may be a big problem?

Check the manifacturer with this program it may help out to let u know if its the DVD or the machine.

Ah, see, that is the key here. THese arent burned dvds. These are store bought movies from Best Buy. That is what makes this even more confusing.

The only 2 programs that i know can work with scratched damaged disc even though they are store bought are:

1)CloneDVD 2

2)DVDFab Decrypter
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvdf...

These 2 programs should do the trick with the scratched discs. Also here is the guide for CloneDVD.

I am having the same problems as you are plus, my dvd player makes every one sound like midgets. Also the mouths don't match up with the voice. Another is that I have a dead pixel.
