I have found my kids to be real hard on the expensive games I buy for them. I can't find a guide to it though does anyone know where one is with the process any hardware I might have to buy programs I'll need? Thanks ---zen-->
Yeah my "kids" are real hard on my games too lol. There are several guides for backing up PS2 games. I could be an a--hole and list them all, but I digress. Use DVD Decrypter to burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R. Here's a guide: http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id3.html Use good DVD-R's like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Maxell, TDK, Sony, or Phillips. You need some type of mod to play PS2 backups. A software mod like: http://swapmagic3.com/ or a hardware mod like: http://teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2 FYI there are plenty of guides for this stuff, search a little harder next time.
Thank you sir, maybe a little lazy I thought their would be a guide at the top of the PS2 forum. Thank you very much I will get started right away. ---zen-->
Well first off if you're interested in a modchip and you have no soldering skills, ALWAYS pay a professional to install it. Secondly Swap Magic 3.6 works great. There isn't a single game that won't boot with it after rebuilding. Games over 4.38GB's may need to be rebuilt to work with Swap Magic. It doesn't support DVD-9 or dual layer games. You can rebuild those to DVD-5 or single layer DVD-R''s. Only about 5% of games need rebuilding. Do you have a fat PS2, or a slim?
It is a slim one. Also I am into backing up movies and I have decrypter already, so that is no problem. I think I will start with The Swap Magic first. So even if I back up some of my disc's they might play now before I get the software?
No they won't play without Swap Magic. If you're not interested in anything too technical, get Swap Magic. With the slim you need a flip top: http://www.chipzone.com/installation/playstation2/fliptop-v12/pag... Magickeys: http://magickeys.net/ or a tape and tissue mod, From Pretense: If the fliptop doesn't work, just give up on it and do a tape and tissue mod. Open up your case again and tape the back sensor (toward the upper left and beneath the hinge part of the lid) with duct tape or even regular Scotch tape (I use several layers to be on the safe side), put the case back together, and stuff a small ball of tissue into the hole for the front sensor (lower right just above the power button). Any of these 3 should work, for the flip top you have to open up your PS2 and void the warranty, but the tradeoff is it's a little more convienent and you don't have to putz around with magickeys or tape and tissue. The flip top for the slim has caused several people issues.
