Well, i would say slimline due to the size and space needed. Ive had both of them and say the slimline was better as it could go ontop of something quite easily. The only downfall i found was that the multitaps and stuff like that were not compatible with the slimline version as the space between the mem card holder and controller port is smaller than the bulkier one aswell. Another good thing about the slimeline is that is is a lot quieter and can also play dvd+-rw's for films but not games in any region. But if using swap magic then the bulkier one is better because you are less likely to break the cover(well when youve got 2 dogs wanderin round your ps2 then it is likely to happen) hope this helps
Woz
up until they released the V13 slim, the old one was better
for sure. It was more stable, had less issues with bad lasers,
and did not have overheating problems.
The V13 fixed the laser problem, but they are still known to act a bit funny *won't load next game right up) after playing them (the slim) for a few hours. A 5 minute cool down period or
a small house fan pointed at the unit prevents that. then again
mine has a chip and is even more prone to heating up quick.
all in all i have both a V7 and a V12 and they are pretty much the same. I like the V12 better only because it has the mod chip.
But the old faithful V7 has been running pretty strong for a
while now.
I would go with the bigger version. The slimline is nice, but if you want to add a hard drive, you have to do all this wicked solidering. I also tried to do a memory card exploit with a slim line and was unsucessful. If you ever want to move onto HDD support, the hastle is greater and more expensive with a slimline.
If there were a dual power supply available for an HDD and slimline, maybe i'd consider it, but in the end it would look nigger rigged anyways. I love my HDLoader and I will never go back to DVD backups.
Yeh, the slimline version is a hell of a lot easier to use on slimline coz its just a case of takin a disc out puttin in another- theres none of this sliding to do. Also the slimline ps2 is more compatible with some backups than the bulkier.
I like the older style, simply because it's easier to add in a hard drive and I prefer the tray loading mechanism. However, for portability & looks, the slimline is quite nice.
Prefer the slimline, you can connect a HD so thats no problem, and it loads DVDs and CDs Faster. The laser syndrome has a fix, so that is also not a big problem, although the fix is not 100% reliable.
