i've browsed around the forum for a while now, i couldn't find the exact answer i was really looking for in my situation..and i have no experience in this whatsoever..so i figured i'd try and post one myself
I own a Sony DRU-500A dvd +/- r/rw and I just got my V4(no gap) Playstation 2 modded with the Magic 3 chip. I dont have a separate dvd-rom drive.
1. What brand dvd-r is best to use for backing up games with the equipment I have?
2. What is the best program to use for backing up games with the equipment i have?
3. What speed should i rip them at, and what speed should i burn them at?
Thanks if anyone can help me it'd be very much appreciated.

Hi
Use the Sony DRU-500 myself. For Sony Ps2 game backups, DVD only, I use DVD Decrypter, free download search on google + you will need to install an ASPI layer, recommend version 4.60. Use ISO read setting to create an image, if game is larger than 4.00gb this will only work if you have NTFS file system on your hard drive. It also has its own built in burner.
For CD based ps2 games I use Alcohol 120%, available as a free 1 month working download, make an image using ps2 settings then burn onto CD-r. Did three CD and 1 DVD game last weekend for my kids. Used Datawrite 4 x media, Ivory colour, burnt at 2 x, works best for me. Cheaper 2 x with grey top fails 60% of time.

i looked around for ASPI layer 4.60, it says dont install it with Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows XP, Easy CD Creator 4.x, or with Windows Media Player 7.0. I have windows media player 7.0...will ASPI v4.71 work just as well with my hardware?
thanks

Hi dagdajk25
Windows XP, this can use the NTFS or FAT32 file systems, NTFS allows file sizes larger than 4gb.
I have a laptop with XP that uses FAT32, I believe this file system is standard on Windows 98?. After trying to create an image on the laptop larger than 4gb, and failing for about a week, I kicked myself when I realised the problem. This is why I mentioned NTFS if you try to create an ISO file 4>gb using DVD decrypter. I no next to nothing about Windows 98, I see it now appears in your signature line. Suggest some research on google, might be possible to convert?.
ASPI 4.60 I used on XP for nearly 11 months, on both my main machine and the laptop. I upgraded my main machine to 4.72a2 in January that works fine as well. I have no experience with easy CD creator so cannot comment. You could try FORCE ASPI to install 4.60 as this can be used to create a backup of your present ASPI layer, and reset it if there are problems. Alternatively install DVD Decrypter and see if it works in your present system ASPI set up.
I use firmware 1.0f myself, I believe this version improved cheap media compatibility, and increased available burn speeds if correct media used.
1.0g is now available, but I am waiting for other people to report on the forums good/bad experiences before I upgrade. Burner works fine at the moment don?t fix it if it ain?t broke.
Sorry if my reply has lead you of topic a bit here, hope the above info helps you
