hello,
i hope that i am posting this in the right section. i am a veteran to dvd shrink v. 3.2 I recently decided that i wanted to experiment with some dual layer dvds. i have read bad things about dual layer media and dvd shrink. i found a post with a brief description on how to use dvd decrypter. i downloaded the newest version (3.5.4.0) i was very excited until i placed my dl disc in the bay after i had ripped the files, only to find an I/O error.

The I/o error reads:
Device [1:0:0] MAD DOG MD-16XDVD9 2.F6 (D:) (ATA)

ScsiStatus: 0x02
Interpretation: Check Condition

CDB: BF 00 00 00 00 00 00 20 00 0C 00 00
Interpretation: Send DVD Structure - DVD+R DL Boundary Information

Sense Area: 70 00 05 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 00 26 00 00 80 00 04
Interpretation: Invalid Field in Parameter List

I am not a computer wizard, but I think I need to set something up in DVD Decrypter to write Dual Layer media. Can anyone please tell me what I am doing wrong. Oh yeah by the way i am using Ridata 2.4x media.

Thanks!!

Update your firmware. You are 3 versions behind. Go here and download "2.FA" -
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1906

Make sure you have the latest firmware for your burner. That will ensure more media compatibility.

Installing your firmware:

1. Don't run any other programs at the same time
2. Don't have any disc in your burner at the same time
3. Restart your PC after you have flashed it.

alrighty the firmware update worked and I was able to burn to a dual layer dvd, thanks temj!!! i scanned through the dl backup burn on the computer and it played OK. i then tried to play the dl backup burn on my sanyo dwm-400 stand alone dvd player and it would not play. i also tried my dad's apex dvd player and it happened to play on the apex player. i was thinking about upgrading and buying a sony DVP-NS50P/S. does anyone have this dvd player or know if it will play the dvd +r dl discs?

thanks

Your "Sanyo" player isn't compatible with DL disc. It appears to only play DVD-R and DVD+R disc's. - http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDname=dwm-400&Submit=Se...

From the reviews here, the Sony will play DVD+R DL. I suggest getting something else though. - http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDname=DVP-NS50P%2FS&Sub...

I highly recommend going here and putting in the model # and doing some research on the player and what formats it plays before purchasing one. - http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php

I have the Sony DVP-NS425P and it players everything. I haven't tried a DL disc yet, as DL media is still to expensive for my taste.

why do you suggest getting a different player? all that i really want is dual layer compatibility and DTS compatibility, and it looks like DVP-NS50P/S supports both. am i missing something? thanks a million for the info and quick respones!!!

Why not get a player that plays DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, and DVD+R DL? Kill 5 birds with one stone.

BestBuy has one for $54.89 - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6373827&type=produc...

Here are the reviews for it: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDname=DVP642&Submit=Sea...

This one even allows you to watch movies downloaded off the internet.
