You can get it to work without any problems... You just need to change the boot file in the game. You'll need to use your PC to do this though... Use WinHiip to save the game to your hdd but instead of using the normal boot file SLES_535.01 you'll need to change it to SWBFRNT2.ELF and you'll be in business.
The game is great, you'll love it.

That is one way to get it to work... It does not work for everyone though. When you install the game using winhiip or like utility, It will show you the SLUS_ boot file. Replace that with SWBFRNT2.ELF. This game also needs to be run in mode 3.
The other method that is being used is to alter the game itself by extracting and editing files.

Battlefront 2 B.S.O.D. fix
**************************
You will need ISOBUSTER, CDGENPS2;
-1.Make ISO(DVD DECRY.), open ISO with Isobuster. Right clickon ISO 1_01, Directory tree and file information, List tree-info(in txt. file),LBA(relative path), save this tree file txt in a new folder... Back in Isobuster, select the 10 items shown in ISO 1_01, right click the selected items,extract objects,browse for your folder with the tree-file, extract those 10 items there.
-2. Open the SYS.CNF with notepad, change "SLUS_212.40" to "SWBFRNT2.ELF", save changes.
-3. Open CDGENPS2, click advanced, import tree file from isobuster, import ordering by LBA(no fix), click Vol, rename to original disk title"1_01"(this step might not be neccessary), click IMG, name game to whatever you want, but save as file type ISO.
-4. Transfer shrunken ISO(2.57 GB) with WINHIIP. When transferring, edit the image settings as follows: select DVD instead of CD, enable mode 3, and change the boot file from "SLUS_212.40" to "SWBFRNT2.ELF".
This will give you a working game from hard drive only! It is also shrunken in size to ~2.5 GB's because you only need the ISO layer from the original. This is pretty much the same workaround others came up with to make the first Battlefront work. I first tried tranferring the whole original ISO with winhiip and choosing the correct boot file with winhiip, it didn't work until I edited the SYS.CNF for some reason...
I am trying out this method myself so i can help out here at Afterdawn.

Yeah, I've been a little busy with classes, damn bio labs :\...
(FYI for other readers; I PMed the answer to tayray69 already, I'm posting this for everyone else)
But yeah, it is in the main DIR and it should be named system.cnf or just plain "system." The icon shoud look like a computer screen and say something like speed dial or something. You cannot double click on it to edit this file. Open up note pad and file/open to get to the .cnf file. For file type, you also need to specify view all files because it will only see .txt files by default.
I am going to make another post soon for my final finding on this game. I have been playing BFII off a backup and have been working on getting it to work on HDLoader. I have gotten it to work and load fine, but the problem is that my PS2 is from a different region than the game. The game is way off axis and the programs that i am using end up corrupting the game where it is no longer playable. I still have plenty of apps and combinations to try out, so I am going to dedicate my weekend to getting it to work.
This is only happening because I have a NTSC PS2 and a PAL game. If you have the same region PS2 and game, you should have no problem. If i can't get it to work by Sunday, I'm just going to give up and rent the game so it can be from the same region. Then i'm going to return the game and say that i got the wrong one and get my money back :P.

Make sure you follow this step EXACTLY. This is what you are going to use with PS2cdgen.

You will be using the .txt file you made in the prior step for this part of the process.

When things freeze like that it might not be a problem with the software, it could be a problem with your pc.
I have a couple of links that i want you to go to:
http://www.cpuid.com/ http://castlecops.com/downloads-file-328-details-HiJackThis.html
I want to see your system specs and see what kind of system you are running. The first link is for a program called cpu-z. This program will give me information like processor family and memory brand and things like that. The other link is for the software that is running on your pc.
Open cpu-z and go to the About tab in the application. You will have to click on a button that says "Registers Dump (.txt). Save the file that it creates on your desktop or something.
Before you open HijackThis close all applications running. Click on the first button that says "Do a system scan and save logfile." HijackThis will do its scan and also open up Notepad with the logfile in it. Close HijackThis and save the logfile to your desktop also.
I'll PM you my email so you can send me both .txt files. These steps might seem a bit excessive, but I know it's a huge pain to work over and over on the same game and get no results. I just want to see if this is the problem first before continuing.

This is how i did it with NTSC version
GET Apache 3
GET CDdvdgen 1.20
DVD Decrypter
That's all you need
1.Open decrypter to iso read to put the game iso on hard drive
2.open the game with apache point to the game on you left that looks like a CD image right click it and hit extract all to your desktop
when it's done with that go to your folder and open the system file with notepad and change it to
BOOT2 = cdrom0:\SWBFRNT2.ELF;1
VER = 1.01
VMODE = NTSC
for PAL users keep it PAL save and go to the next step
3.When thats done open cddvdgen click new project then click dvd-rom master disc put the game files in the same order that apache had them go to volume and where it say Disc name you put for ex.(SLUS *****)
after that go to producer name put in PLAYSTATION and where it say Licence Area i pick america. Ater that go to file at the top on cddvdgen and click Export iml file it will ask you to save on your HDD you can put a short name of the game click save and that's it for cddvdgen close it
4. Go back to apache go to file on the top and click Import iml file then you should see on your right all the file of the game then go back to file and click build ISO and there you go wait for it to finish
ToxicFish Quote: When you install the game using winhiip or like utility, It will show you the SLUS_ boot file. Replace that with SWBFRNT2.ELF. This game also needs to be run in mode 3.
that's all to it

I'm not sure how your method is different from the apps that i used, but it works, and it's centered too. The only thing is that the refresh rate is horrible. I can see the blank lines and screen flicker. Also the game is not sized correctly to the screen.
I guess i'm going to cave and repeat these steps with a rental so i can play the NTSC version. The loading menu in PAL is pretty crappy. I was looking forward to an upgraded grid loader like the one that was in the first battlefront. This one doesn't even give me a loading bar that i can show off to my friends the wicked speed of hdloader -_-;;;
Is the American version this basic too?

I looked all over the place for those and i couldn't find them. Cdvdgen or cddvdgen (CD_DVD-ROM Generator 1.50) is an actual application that $ony uses to make it's games. The only way you can get it is from P2P networks, so take your pick.
I could not find apache 3... Apache 2 worked just fine for me. Actually, i don't think apache 3 exists because i went to the creator's site and they didn't even have it up.
