I start smartripper 2.41. it tell me that no ASPI access to this drive, switch to WinIO, test file access.....
Then scrolls through half the files and it kind of locks up. (keeps hitting the hard drive and dvdrom drive). hit alt ctrl del and it says the program has stopped responding.
Please help,
Clay

If SmartRipper locks up again then the dvd "might" be seriously scratched. Use DVD Decrypter 3.1.4.0 as an alternative. I've had to use this prog for 3 dvd movies as SmartRipper just couldn't handle.
Asus K8N nVidia nForce3 Pro 250 GB, Athlon 64 3200+, Hitachi 80 gig SATA 150, Corsair XMS 1 gig PC4000, ATI Radeon Saphire 9600 Pro (256 DDR), Windows XP Pro (64 Bit),Lite-ON SOHD 167T,, Plextor PX-712SA,BenQ 1640.
And also, Shoey, if SmartRipper can't read it because it is scratched, then I am sure DVD Decrpyter can't either, they are using the same laser after all.
After reading the question the answer is clear and hoike is spot on. The encryption can be foiled by running player software at the start up. This will authenticate all the files no problem. ASPI or not, the disc will be read by SmartRipper no problem.
loaded,
SmartRipper failed me on 1 dvd backup because there is no option to ignore read errors. DVD Decrypter did the job, but was time consuming. The author of SmartRipper should update SmartRipper and add this feature as it comes in handy dealing with scratched dvd's.
