More simpler: if you have TMPGenc (which I suppose you have, because you're making KVCDs):

1) extrect the movie's sound into uncompressed WAV form and make a MP2 file with it.
2) multiplex it to the M1V (M2V for a SKVCD) file , choosing, in MPEG tools 'Video-CD (non standard)' if you make a KVCD.

To have the MP2 file you have to:

1) extract the sound rom the AVI/MPG file. Open if with VirtualDub, set Audio___Full processing mode and File___Save WAV. You'll extract a hige (10.1 x length, in minutes) uncompressed WAV file.
2) open the WAV with one of those three programs:

1) HeadAC3he
choose destination format: MP2 (with options>> you can lower the bitrate from the default 224 kbps to 128 kbps - if your DVD playetr acepts KVCD with 128 kbps audio)

2) BeSweet
Profile 'MP2 for SVCD' (it will convert the WAV to a 128 kbps MP2 file, by default). Open the WAV and click 'WAV to MP2'. Clicking the [lame1] button you can change the value of the bitrate from the 128 default value.

3) TMPGenc (choose VCD in the wizard, set manually ES (audio only) in the main screen). You can change the default rate by clicking settings__audio. It is the slowest.

(I'm supposing you have a movie with 44.1 kHz audio (almost all AVIs with MP3 sound and MPEGs files are so, of you can check it by opening it and making File___File Information in VirtualDub) . If you have , for example, an AVI with AC3 48 kHz sound you'll have to use HeadAC3he or BeSweet [TMPGenc doesn't support AC3 sound] and resample the audio to 44.1 kHz with them)
