hi
just wanted to know, if you have a modchip do you still need to rebuild games or will a straight copy load up.Because most people use swapmagic and i know you have to rebuild some games with that.
i have a duo2 se modchip.

I have a chip installed in my PS2 and I have never had to rebuild any game. Just a straight up burn with DVD Decrypter. I've never had any problems with any game so far.
Computer Specs:
AMD Athlon64 3700+ (oc'ed to 2.5Ghz)
2gb OCZ premier RAM
ASUS A8R-MVP motherboard
two ATi X1600 Pro 512mb each running in Crossfire
Thermaltake Silent Purepower 500W PSU
LG DVD +/-RW drive 4120
ACER 19" LCD 1916B
On-Board 5.1 w/ Logitech X530 speaker system

Wong Fu is correct. With a modchip that supports DVD-9 games like the Matrix Infinity and DMS 4, you'll never need to rebuild a game. I'm not sure the Du2SE is compatible with Dual Layer or DVD-9 games. At least here: http://teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2#30 it's not listed. In that case you would have to shrink a DVD-9 to DVD-5 or single layer.

Tokijin, any word on your system? Did you get it back with the Matrix in it yet?

Yeah I got it back today. Defects, Defects, Defects! Games won't boot and the reset button doesn't work. I sent it to a reputable installer, he says it's probably a loose eject ribbon. I'll send it back to him Monday. At first I was pissed, but Oh well nothing I can do about it. It's only $15 and another week of waiting to play all my burned games.

aw jeeez...how dissappointing...I'd be pretty pissed too I guess..well, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait when you eventually get back working 100%

Wong,
You stated you have a Magic Direct-boot modchip. Is it the Magic 3.1 Plus Modchip? I need to upgrade mine & want to make sure I get one that is going to be sufficient. I saw the 3.1 chip on a website & it looked like it supports DVD-9, and offers direct boot of all CD & DVD backups. Looks like the right deal for me. I'm interested in other, more knowledgable opinions. Thanks.

Well I did just finish grade school, hooked on Phonics worked for me!
You want a good mochip? Matrix Infinity, DMS 4. They both direct boot everything and support DVD-9, multidisc games, and have region free DVD support. Want a low budget solution, get the Duo2SE.

Crap I should've mentioned I'm not sure if the Duo2SE supports DVD-9 games. It is a good chip, that's straight from the mod guy at teammodders.com. Yeah you'd have to desolder the original and resolder your current one. As far as how do to that, I'm not sure. I'm not gonna give you half assed soldering advice. I'll get back to you on that. Are you an experienced solderer? You'll want to get a pro to do it unless you know exactly what you're doing. What chip do you have installed now?

I soldered the original in, back in 2001. I can't remember which model modchip I got(from modchip.com), but it's always worked until I started burning the DVD backups. I'm a little confused because the link you provided to teammodders (above) does say that the Duo2SE is compatible with DVD-9. I guess you must've overlooked that bullet.
Anyway, I think I can handle getting the old one out and putting the new one in. If it looks rough, I'll consider getting outside professional help. Again, thanks for your input

The chip I have is a Magic 3.x
The thing is, I got the chip a long time ago when I didn't know anything about PS2 backup. It does boot everything I've ever put into it so far without any problems.
I don't know if it boots DVD-9 games as I have never tried before. Since it's an older chip and I don't really play any games that are DVD-9 it doesn't really matter to me
Like Tokijin said, if you're looking for a good chip, the two I'd suggest is the Matrix Infinity or the DMS4..can't go wrong..

hey guys just a quick question ..my brother has a ps2 chipped but doesnt know which chip it is when you turn on the ps2 theres a screen that says "TOXIC 0S " or TOXIC 05" i was just wondering if anyone knew which chip was installed..thanks

Probably a DMS 4 Pro, or DMS EZI Pro, which is a solderless chip. Does the chip direct boot everything? Those are the only chips I know of which use Toxic OS.

well when he turns it on he pops in the game and selects on the options to play the game it has more options like hdd games and some other stuff i cant remember ..ok thanks he was just wondering what kind of chip it might be

the DMS chips are really good chips.
I have the DMS4 Pro and love it.
Matrix infinity would have been my only other choice.
Duo2SE is suppose to be good as well but if it doesn't
have flash upgrades then go with the first 2 i listed or you will be sorry in the long run that you did not spend the couple extra
$$$ for the DMS4 or Matrix Infinity.
They both have flash upgrades that will add new features to the
chip for free, each time they release a new one that is.
Happens about once a year right now. But they always have cool things in the works.

hey i wanted to know that i have a modchip i got it in october 2002 its installed in my ps2 how can i know which one is it and also that my ps2 is 39004 made in china so does back up dvd games damage lens? i just changed my lens. my friend have a made in japan ps2 and it never gets a problem. mine every after 4 or 5 months so i just changed the lens and want to know does backup DVD+R games damage or weakens ps2 lens .???

Not that I'm aware of. Older chips can cause wear and tear on your lens. Nowadays almost all of them are so well designed this is no longer an issue. I doubt it's the backups that are overheating your PS2 lens, probably the older modchip. Do you know which chip you have?

well thats the thing i dont know which modchip i have. i live in saudi arabia here there are big shops that sell copied games of ps2 but the games which they sell come from malaysia and are golden from down and also that everyone one who lives here have a modchip. and people buy ps2 dvd games for around $4 EVEN THE latest games. i tried using my own backed up game that works but it takes time to read and it takes more than 1 tries to work.
