I've been trying to use avisynth to identify a codec I obviously don't have, but every time I use it, it says, "error: could not play back file; unsupported format." Does anyone know if there's a new avi codec released or if there's another program to use to identify this file type?

Try GSpot. So you were using avisource and then reading off the error about an unsupported FourCC? If it didn't work with avisource then I don't think it really is an AVI.
