Do you mean Burn or rip? If it's burn then you should be able to choose the speed. And if you mean ripping then that is really up to you computer specs. Most will say 521mb of RAM is the minimum requiered for ripping movies. And 45 minutes doesn't seem too long. I'd say it's average, maybe it's a little slow to some people but to me I'd say that a pretty good time.

@sizzler2, I agree with GlueEater, that's not a long time..most of mine take over the 1hour mark, I like to burn at a slow speed around 4x no more than 8x...the slower the burn the less problems you seem to encounter.

as GlueEater said
it depends on the speed of your computer.and if your dma is set correctly and how much ram is installed.
as a example my computer rips a movie in 8 to 15 min,burns in 9 min.

@ireland
ok ... newbie here .... rips in 15 min, burns in 9 you say ....wtf is encoding? thats what takes forever for me!
I rip my disk to the hd.... after that is all done I open it up with shrink and when I make a copy it goes through a long (30 min or so...) "encoding" phase with shrink, then burns for 7-10 minutes.
Is that encoding a part of the burn?? thanks for the time.todd

When ripping to the hard drive, your CPU is taxed by de-encrypting efforts. So read speed will be influenced in this case by how powerful your CPU is. Encoding into mpeg4 with Shrink is also processor intensive so a more powerful CPU will speed things up there as well. Some drives read faster than others. My NEC 3540 with original firmware maxes out at 5.2X read speed but with the rip lock disabled it goes up to 9.2x for DL media taking 6-7 minutes off the rip. The speed of your hard drive also plays a role, although not a large one. If you're using ME I suspect your CPU is not powerful by today's measures and accounts for the "slowness" you experience.
I have a 256mb 1.0GHz Athlon (32 bit) Toshiba laptop and an Athlon64 3400+ Compaq laptop. The latter takes 12 minutes to do a full rip of a DL DVD to the HD, 19 minutes to do the mpeg4 encoding, and 14 minutes to do a 4x burn. The Toshiba takes 16 minutes to do the rip, 28 to do the encoding, and 14 to do the burn. This is for the same DVD with the same externally encased burner.

@laddyboy
execllent info and details! Thankyou ... my specs are at the bottom in my signature.... my cpu is the downfall of my computer, but my burning time sound to be around the exact same as yours are. -
Im running me because I had security issues with the newer system that I had on there before (Im not putting the name cause its probably in the forum rules)
You said "Encoding into mpeg4 with Shrink is also processor intensive"
so with that I have a question ... why with "shrink " is it more intensive? Is it the shrinking process or something about the system?
Im asking because I shrink it as I save it to my harddrive.... that way it is already shrunk before I do my burns.... from this point (after it is on my hard drive) is there intense cpu usage, and does it increase if I burn using 2 burners? I dont know if it would process the info together or seperate to send to each burner....
I hope I worded everything properly there!! ;) Tojj

I think that if you tried to burn two different movied on two different burner drives at the same time it would be very cpu intensive and could cause you issues with your results.
I don't know if it would save you any time or not as each process would be working against the other.
Anybody out there done this?

the fastest ive seen is shrink t5. main movie, rip and burn about 15mins. i dont use this app because i like alittle better quality, but if speed is whay u want then u might like it. im not sure if it works with windows me or not? u will need AnyDVD (unless u can find this illusive machinist dll) and a burn engine too.u can find it at filepedia.com right here at ad.

or is that instant?? ..I guess Ill find out anyways...
@9mmruger1
