Problem playing movies recorded in Mpeg "fine" mode

I have a DSC-H1 sony camera; it records in mpeg format standard (640 x 480 16fps) or "fine" 640 x 480 30fps. When I download the movies to my laptop from the camera they're fine. Once copied onto a disk (CD-R) using Nero, they will not play properly either on my laptop or on my dvd player. I cannot find out any information on why this should be and would be sooooo grateful for anybody who has had this problem and can explain to me why this issue keeps happening. If you're wondering why I don't just use the standard mode - it's because the "fine" mode gives such a superior picture quality. Many thanks, Jackie
