Sorry if this has already been answered, but I've been having a problem with getting a DVD project to work on one of my DVD players. I use Nero as the guide told me, and Win AVI to convert from WMV to the DVD format. I've tried several times now, burning all the BUP's and IFO's and VOB to different DVD-R's and DVD+R's. It burns successfully onto the DVD+R's, and it freezes a lot in one of my DVD players, and on my other DVD player as soon as I put it in it freezes after less than a second of play time.

So then I tried a DVD-R and it works completely smooth the first time on my one DVD player (the one that worked better the first time) but still not at all really on my other one (freezes on after a second-or so).

I have to show this video during a seminar on Tuesday, and I don't know what type of DVD player there is in class. So I really don't know what to do. And I can't check tommorow because it's a day off. So I'm kind of stuck.

Can someone explain what the problem is or what I could be doing better?

Thanks in advance.

More information:
Pioneer DV-343 is the one that didn't work.
Panasonic PV-D4744S-K is the one that works well. (DVD-VCR)

I'm using Verbatim DVD+R's and the same for DVD-R's. Phillips DVD burner.

What burn speed did you use? Sometimes burning at a slower speed like 4X helps standalone player's playback. Verbatim is good media. Nero should be booktyping the +R media as DVD-ROM which should help. Make sure Nero is up to date. The latest Nero 6 version is 6.6.0.16. Nero 7 is also available. Check your burner's firmware against the firmware here:

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=24

and update if necessary. Since you didn't specify the model number of your burner I can't be more specific with respect to the firmware.

Burning DVD's is more of an art than a science. There is no way to make sure the burned dvd will play in all players. Your choice of Verbatim blank media is a good start. Next burn the media at the slowest speed possible (2x). Run a check for ad-ware and spy-ware and remove any if necessary. Never multitask while burning the dvd. Shut down all programs that auto start on boot-up like anti-virus programs. Burning dvds uses most of your system resources so you don't want anything to interfere with your burn process. Hope some of this helps.

I agree w/ everything Jerry746 said but to add on... You should also defrag your HD every couple burns and in response what Jerry746 said about the Spyware/adware/malware, a good, free program to use would be Ad-Aware, I consider it to be the best Spyware/adware/malware remover i've used free or not. Another thing would be to run "DiskCleanup" every once in a while to delete unwanted items from your "Temporary Internet File" which is where most Spyware/adware/malware reside. Doing this will not only free up your HD by a few MB but to also get rid of some Ad-ware because

I did disk cleanup, and my DVD burner is: Phillips DVD+-RW DVD8631. My Nero is Nero 6.6.0.16. And if I try burning again at a slower speed, shud I use DVD-R or DVD+R? And does Nero automatically booktype +R or do I have to set it to do so?

Thanks for the help so far.

Pooman5, apparently you have a rebadged BenQ 1620. Firmware is here:

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1978

DVD Decrypter will indicate the burner name followed by the firmware version in the righthand side of the Decrypter window when a disk is in the drive. Compare that version to the latest above which is GD30. Or go to Nero Burning ROM and select Choode Recorder under the Recorder menu to get the firmware revision number.

You can attempt to set the booktype by using DVD Decrypter. I cannot guarantee that the burner has the firmware that allows it or that DVD Decrypter can do it:

Set the DVD Decrypter to Mode -> ISO Write
Right click on the burner name in the Destination box and select Change Book Type
Click the BenQ tab
In the Change For dropdown menu select Drive (for DVD+R Media)
In the Current Setting menu select DVD-ROM

It'll either say failed or change successful.

Only +R media can be booktyped.
