I've tried to play mkv's and ogm's on VLC 0.8.2, but the video is slow and jerky. I've checked the same files on MPlayer OS X 2, and they play fine. MPlayer is a bit too buggy for my liking, does anyone know what's wrong with VLC?

What streams are in the mkv/ogm's? VLC uses more resources, also libavcodec/format would probably be more uptodate in mplayer.

mplayer works fine here under windows/linux. Not at all what I would describe as buggy.

MPlayer OS X 2 is still a beta, it is rather behind the more reliable Linux and Windows releases. The MPlayer homesite still only has a "Preview" MacOS X release. For example, it tends to max out your volume after playing a file. There is also no truly comprehensive list of commands for the program, the closest thing is getting them bunch at a time from their help forums.

Either way, after looking around for answers for a whole day, I've come to the conclusion that, given what I know about MacOS and video software, coping with it is the best I can do for now. Thanks tho.

What about a current CVS version complete with updated libs, etc.?

I tried the latest beta release of VLC, 0.8.4 , and the problem persists. After a whole night of testing, searching forums, and much feeling stupid, I checked the specs on my video card, and all my questions were laid to rest. VLC is pretty resource heavy on Mac, and it's just a matter of specs. I can't believe I didn't see this sooner. Just goes to show how weird it is to learn a new OS after using only Windows for several years. Thanks for the suggestions, though.

I appreciate the consideration, but I've already got it worked out. I got the latest MPlayer OS X 2, and it works well enough for me. Thanks.
