The question has been asked before, but with no answers.
Here's the situation. I'm in the mountains, in my truck and need a map of the area. I have my laptop and my cell with a good cell signal.
I could use the cell to go online, but who could read the map on a 1.5" screen? I have MPT and a USB cable and have even set up an internet connection to my ISP using the cell as a modem, but I get an error saying the remote server is not responding. I've tried this at home and my landline will make the connction, but the cell won't.
Does anyone know how to set up a Motorola V220 connection to the laptop so I can us my ISP dialup?

Zero idea bro...

Sounds logical that it would work, but I got no idea what you'd need to do.

One workaround that will totally eliminate your cellphone from this equation is to get yourself a copy of Delorme Topo USA or Delorme Street Atlast (depending on if you need topo mapping or if you're just in a foreign city area).

Doesn't help your initial concern, but might help u accomplish what u need to.

I talked to a guy who used his phone to do exactly what you're wanting. Not sure what software it entailed but he did say he has to pay Cingular for the internet service. As far as I know you can't just use your cell as a modem without paying an extra charge, I could be wrong though.
Might contact your provider and see what they say.
