Just picked up the PSP gigapack at the local FutureShop, and I must say I am blown away. I've read how good the screen is, but just after looking at the movie previews on the demo disk I really am impressed at how nice it actually is.
So here's what it comes with:
System
AC power cord
AC adaptor
battery pack
headphones with remote control
Sony 1GB Memory Stick PRO Duo
Clear Stand
usb cable
pouch
cloth
UMD demo
The best news of all at least for me was the firmware is 2.0, I was worried that it would be higher and it would be no homebrew for me, but I already checked the system settings and it is definetely 2.0, so I'll be downgrading tonight.
For anyone interested, it was $349.99 + tax CA dollars here in Toronto.
Just thought I'd pass on the good news!
PSP
1GB Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo
Firmware 2.0 Downgraded to 1.5
**************
PS2 SCPH-50001
HDAdvance 2.0
3.5" External Enclosure
200GB Maxtor HD

Hey Beast.
Were you successful downgrading your firmware to 1.5 and running Homebrew ? If so, was wondering which procedure you used. There are so many out there, all of which are either confusing or
straightforward. Just don't want to break the psp without getting some good facts together first.
Thanks.

Alas only the very early adopters (in limited Regions cough The U.S. & Can), has it been reported that the Giga Black and White Pak's came with only v2.0 installed. Which in itself maybe true!
However, that was then, this is now and the close we get to Christmas and the faster S0NY manages to move it's Stock to Retail. The more likely your going to land up with a v2.50 PSP! =(
I'm not saying that there aren't any more Giga v2.0's left How should I know?!? I live in Germany! But, I do freqrent other 'Sites' that report on this stuff and in this instancew they all seem to aggree on this that by the end of the Year the greater amount of PSP's in the Retail sector will have v2.50 preinstalled.
So it just boils down to luck at this point on whic PSP your going to get!

If it helps others I bought mine at Walmart in Toronto Canada. GTA region has many Walmarts. Bought the GIGAPACK (it was $348 CAD), powered up the PSP and breathed a sigh of relief. Version 2.0.

Why would you use a Japanese 1.5 version? Does it require it or something?

Because for a simular reasion you can not downgrade to a pure v1.0(Jap), Firmware. The U.S. PSP's? were shiped to Retail with v1.50 pre-installed. Thuss there was no need to make a v1.50(US), Firmware availible. By the time the PSP? got over here, (in Europe), S0NY? managed to bust out with Firmware v1.52 / v2.0 (on UMD).
So the only Ones who had a need for Firmware v1.50 where thoes with Firmware v1.0. (i.e. Those with Japanese PSP's?),...

[sarcasm] Um I think so! [/sarcasm]
Firmware v1.5 does not have Korean Languge support. However Japanese, Russian, Portuguęs, Nederlands, Italian, French, Spansh, German....
.... and English are supported in v1.50
So if you're in need of Korean Languge Support it's probably best to stick with v2.0(or higher),....

Homebrew is applications that sony didnt make or dont want, they are homemade programs e.g super mario on psp, and 1.5 can run all of them, including backed up games which are called iSO's, anything over 1.5 is limited homebrew and CANNOT play iSO's...

So could you give me some examples of homebrew things?

well for example, typical homebrew will involve loaders such as snes being emulated, gba, genesis/mega drive. therre are many more.
but this is not the full power of the 1.5
with a giga pack(1gb stick) you will be abkle to download backed up games and play them on ur psp all for free. but to do this legally you will need the umd of course.
asking for iso's on aD is not allowed, this includes links

by backing up games, i mean u can create a back up version of your umd which you must own, in order to not be pirating,
a back up is when u create a version of ur game which u use rather than ur original this may be
- saves original ums from being damaged
- saves loading times
- plus afew more
by "AND WHAT DO U MEAN I NEED THE UMD " i mean that you must own a copy of the game you are wishing to back up, else its pirating though i dont reckon half of the people here own the games they have isos of
