I used DVD shrink to copy Lion King to my harddrive and used DVD decrypter to burn into a backup. The DVD plays fine, but the speaking audio is very quiet, while the background music is normal volume. What did I do wrong? Thanks.

Sounds like you are trying to play a DTS audio stream on a non-compatible DTS player.

Oh well this was my first try at burning DVD's. I just got the NEC 3540A burner and I was using a Philips DVDRW disc. I tried to overwrite it and now it says access denied for "locking volume for exclusive access" whatever that means.

Something else/another program is trying to access the drive. You need to find out what it is and stop the other program.

Ok i tried the dvd with the tv and it sounds fine. It's just when I play it on the computer that the speaking is very quiet. In Windows Media Player I can tweak the audio to bring the voices to the front, but it still doesn't sound right. Any more suggestions?

Check the settings on the sound card. It's sounds like it's set up for 5.1 surround and some of the volumes aren't turned up. In the bottom left of your task bar on your desktop, right click the speaker. Then click Open Volume Control. You'll see Front, Surround, Center and Lfe. Make sure they're all turned up or at least set to your preference. There's an advanced icon for Front. Make sure those are both checked. Of course, this applies only if you're using an intergrated sound that came with the computer. Otherwise, if you added an addt'l internal card, it will have settings for you to adjust as well.

Yeah everything is turned up. I don't know what's going on. Regular DVD's play fine, it's just the burned ones that have the quiet dialogue. The strange thing is the Bewitched DVD I got from Hollywood Video had the same sound problem. But ALL the other DVD's I have sound fine. It's so weird! Thanks for all the help so far...Any more suggestions?

I don't think it's anything you're doing. Sounds like you just got a hold of some bad pressings of movies. Your others are fine, so that's the only conclusion I can come to.
