Problems to rip DVD with Smartripper, DVD2AVI & TMPGEnc

After ripping DVD with Smartripper, I proceed to use DVD2AVI as a frame server and finally TMPGEnc to encode Mpeg1. Upon completion, I relised that Mpeg only playback with video but no sound. I tried to playback wav(AC3) created earlier by DVD2AVI, an error message of "insufficient buffer" appears. I suspect that this might be the caused of why the encoded Mpeg1 is not having any sound. Basically, I'm ripping a almost 3hrs DVD and the wav(AC3) file is about 2.15GB. Kindly advise how can I resolve this problem...Help..Help

X'tra info : I tried using FlaskMpeg to do encoding but hangs at 46%. Guess I might have to split DVD to 2 with InfoEdit than try encoding again.

When in DVD2AVI make sure to select Decode to wav in the audio menu.

when I use dvd2avi to rip audio, it happens realtime (3hrs) instead of 10 min's. could this have anything to do with my ac'97

Yo guys, my experiment of splitting DVD in 2 and this thime the audio from DVD2AVI seems OK. I'll encode with TMPGEnc and merge mpeg to compare outcome. Well, kind of resolve problem but it would be better if DVD2AVI can do the job in the 1st place.

Why not use Eazy VCD (TMPEng encoder included)?
The program muxes the audio for you! Another great advantage about this program is you can rip the dvd "on the fly", no vobs on your hard drive (yahoo).

Is there any benefit to using VCDEasy to make SVCD's if you are not concerned with chapters? What else can VCDEasy do that Tmpge can't? My SVCD's usually turn out cherry but, if someone can tell me how to make things even better with this VCDEasy program, that would be fantastic!!!

A) NO, use DVD2SVCD using Cinema Craft Encoder
What else can VCDEasy do that Tmpge can't?
A) VCD Eazy uses TMPEng anyways, supports "on the fly rip" so you don't have to use an dvd ripper (SmartRipper, DVD Decrypter).
My SVCD's usually turn out cherry but, if someone can tell me how to make things even better with this VCDEasy program, that would be fantastic!!!
A) Your SVCD shouldn't turn out "cherry" as long as you use the proper settings For CCE, the defult is multipass vbr-3 using CCE. I don't use TMPEng or Canopus ProCoder because they are much slower encoders. My dvd2 svcd backups are spectacular!

Thanks Shoey, I was about to try using Eazy VCD on DVDs that I had encounter problem previous when using DVD2AVI, DVDx2.0 and FlaskMpeg. Well, I'll be pretty contented if it produces reasonable good quality and very little hassle. Anyway, I do understand that if I really want DVD quality than I'll have to use DVD+R instead. By the way, do you know of any ways to copy DVD9 without going through those hassle of spliting VOB with InfoEdit?

FlaskMPEG= too buggy of a program and I wouldn't bother using. I would suggest using the programs mentioned on this forum, input the "best settings" (2 pass/vbr) and just test for yourself, that's what I did. I'm not up to par on DVD29, have you tried MakeitEasy?

WOW! Just finished ripping 1 DVD with EazyVCD and all I can say is super, hyper easy and hassle free. Thanks to Shoey!!! The only question that I have is the Option of producing VCD,XVCD,SVCD and XSVCD. What exactly is XVCD and XSVCD?

I just started to use SmartRiper+DVD2AVI+TMPGEnc and noticed that in insutructions how to use DVD2AVI it is missing bit about selecting Audio/OutputMethod/Decode ToWav. That is why I didn't have any sound, but now its working perfetcly.
Thanks guys for this fantastic site - I'm an Fine Art student, and would like to make a video project- without thi site I would be lost

like kata was saying with the SmartRiper+DVD2AVI+TMPGEnc thing i have tried that and they have missed out something so the file ends up getting saved but not what it was supposed to do coz when i put it in tmpge it sayz file unreadable so i was wondering could u possibly help?

Smart Ripper, or DVD Decrypter, BOTH FREE, and both work well.
Then use DVDx, FREE again, never fails on any region DVD, Then copy with Power CDR Express, not free, but you can copy any Dvd at good quality as an SVCD, or lower quality, but quicker, as a VCD.
Or Buy DVD Copy Plus 4.2, and get excellent support. As I did.

Hello everybody, I had very bad experience with DVDx1.6 and DVDx2.0 as this program seems to have alot of audio blanks when come to ripping DVD with alot of movie trailers.

DVD2DivX: Obviously DivX 5x Pro
DVD2VCD: TPMEnc Plus
DVD2SVCD:
1) CCE (Cinema Craft Encoder)
2) Canopus ProCoder
3) TMPEnc Plus
Recommended dvd rippers:
1) DVD Decrypter
2) SmartRipper
Recommended burning software:
1) VCDEasy (Mpeg) or bin& cue
2) ?> I like BurnAtOnce
