I am a newbie and I am trying to learn as much as I can right now. I know it's possible to copy DVD's I rent from Blockbuster and copy them onto a CD-R and play them in a regular DVD drive or Xbox. Am I correct? I have a CD R/RW burner and plenty of cd's. Can someone please explain to me what programs I would need to copy DVD's and to also then burn them onto a CD-R. Is everything I'm asking possible? I really appreciate anyone who helps me. Thanks again.

You will need DVDCopyOne. Most movies have to be split into two files, one file will go one one cd-r and the other file on another cd-r. DVDCopyOne has a walkthrough on how to do this. Mine work fine in my 5-disc DVD player but don't work in my ps2... so there's your warning.
cheers

I have a couple of problems with this... I wonder if anyone could help me. I tried to use 'dvdcopyone' but it only made part of the mpeg file - about 30 minutes of the movie. The other problem is that I have a PAL DVD which I want to watch here in Japan (NTSC) - how can I convert this ? I tried to do it with TMPGEnc, but it didn't work.

Og course, copying DVDs from blockbuster is illegal (unless you live in Finland) so you would only use this method for backing up DVDs you legally own, but check out our Artciles section. Try DVD2SVCD if you need CD media (ie don't have DVD burner!)

Paul.

I'm back...
...can't you smell the fear?

Loaded, is really legal to do that in Finland or is that sarcasim, its hard to tell here in the states where what rights we have are slowly being widdled away, soon I'm sure we're going to have a super-proprietory video/audio format where cracking it will lead an mpaa hit-squad to your house to eliminate you and all the people you know. It's all quite Orwellian and sadly its really happening, just today people are realizing that some very restrictive bills are being passed with out their knowlege b/c noone pays attention until a situation has occured. Well that's my extremely off topic rant in the wrong forum, but please answer my question way in the top of this post, I want to know how jealous I should be of the Finninsh or the Finns(Sad to say that I don't even know what to call y'all, woops the Texan accent is show'n through, gotta try harder to use that ol' Elizabethan English)

This is an amazingly imformative site with many places to find information and help. Please support it.
