HD Advance 3.0 problem...PLEASE HELP

I am having a terrible time getting the HDA 3.0 to read PS2 burns. Even my old 1.0 would at least read them, but 3.0 gives me a "not valid PS2 disc" error. I just recently started having problems w/ the newest games, but thought the upgrade to 3.0 would fix this, seems worse to me. Same story w/ my SwapMagic 3.6 upgrade. My ancient version seemed to read more games!! What could be my problem here??? Thanks to anyone who can help me.
