okay, first off I use DVD Shrink to rip all my movies and i have never had a problem other than it seems to rip kinda slow for the type of processer i have (3.0 ghz pentium 4) and the burner/dvd drive is a _NEC DVD+-RW ND-3530A... I usually get speeds around 4,500 to 5,000 Kb/s...I have checked my controllers and both are in dma mode and it says ultra mode 2 by each of them (if that means anything) i've tried updating the drivers but both seem to be already updated...my friend who has almost the exact same comp as me is getting speeds of 10,000 to 11,000 Kb/s...does anyone know what I'm missing? i read something about updating firmware but isnt that just the drivers? anyhelp would be appreciated...thx

peace

I may be wrong but I thought these drives NEC DVD+-RW ND-3530A have rip lock. You have to install hacked firmware to open up the rip lock. Shrink will also run faster if your pulling files off hard drive rather than straight from disk. Shrink uses alot of processor and memory SATA hard drives like the western digital Raptures run 10,000 rpm which will help ripping speeds. The Pioneer and Plextor drives are hard to beat there very fast rippers and nice burners. Asus drives are fast rippers cd/dvd rom combo model E616 (newegg $25 bucks). Just remember when using shrink you may not want to be running any other process this will slow it down as well.

Good Luck

The first link was for a dos environment. This one is for Windows.

I usually use the Windows program myself. Read the questions and answers on the second link and only proceed if you are comfortable. It is very easy but there are risks. If you download the dos program there is also a readme file to explain the process.
