My freind sent me aome dvd's of the old neighbor hood. I can watch them in my PC but not in any of my standalone players. So I thought if I burned a copy of it using shrink and decrypter and then even with dvdxcopy. Again, they play fine in my PC but qill not play in any of my players. What could be wrong with on what could be on these disc's that won't let me play or copy them to play? ---zen-->

What media are you using for this?
If you are using DVD+R and you have the ability to booktype to DVD-ROM you will probably be able to play them.
Change the booktype in decrypter prior to burning.

OK let me get this staight. Do you mean switch it to DVD-R? Or to dvd-rom? Cause my burner does both - and +'s. Would you explain how I can do that in decrypter? And I will give it a try.

You can booktype +R's to dvd-rom not the -R's. In the decrypter window, across from the destination box on the right hand side of the window is the picture icon of a book. Click it and a window will open up that you can then choose the tab of your dvd burner,i.e. LG, BenQ, Plextor, Sony, etc.
When you have selected the correct tab for your burner click the down arrow of the media type and select DVD+R then go to the change arrow and select DVD-ROM click the change button and done. Once done, you will not have to do it again until you reboot your computer, the booktype setting for the drive will stay the same.
Alternate Method:
Click on the menu>tools>drive>change booktype>and follow instructions above.

Thank you very much it is appreciated. I will give it a try. When I go back to just burning regular movies should I turn it back to DVD+R? Also I only need to do this in the burning process, correct?

Hi zenarrow,
Quote: When I go back to just burning regular movies should I turn it back to DVD+R?
You can always burn your regular movies as a DVD-ROM ~ it is accepted by more standalones than any other format (a good thing). It never hurts to burn in that mode. I do it all the time with my BenQ and NEC burners.
Quote: I only need to do this in the burning process, correct?
Correct. That's the only place where you can change your format to a DVD-ROM. Unfortunately, you can't set it in software programs such as Shrink or Nero.
Good Luck.

Pioneers have to have a hacked firmware called the Buffalo firmware to achieve booktyping capability. I've seen this at cdfreaks.com and I think Kivory666 has used that firmware in his pioneer to achieve booktying.
Since currently you are unable to booktype, the dash format should work better. I'm not sure of which format you are using.Try the opposite format that you have now and see how your stand alones react to them.

OK, I have since put the disc's in my dvd Identifier they say that they were or are in the dvd-rom. Also I tried burning them to a DVD-R instead of the DVD+R Neither work, when I put them in my player the message "Playback is not availible on this disc" same with my PS2 it does not play. I am baffled, I don't understand why after burning the movie from the origanal using the method I always use on other movies how this defect could be transferred through the process. If anyone has any ideas I might try I would appreciate it. Thanks ---zen-->

@saugmon,
The "hacked" firmware you speak of, Buffalo, is for Pioneer's 107. To date, I cannot get it to work on my 107. Do you have any "First hand" experience with it ?
@Zenarrow,
Just a note:
You can change a DVD+R to a DVD-ROM BUT you cannot do so with a DVD-R.
When trying to "Baby" an older standalone to play a DVD backup, DVD-ROM's will play on more than will DVD-R's AND DVD-R's will play on more players than will DVD+R's.
Re-reading all of your posts on this thread, I would like to ask what Brand of DVD's you're using ?
Newer discs such as 8X may not be seen by your older player as they didn't exist when your player was built.
Also, a reminder, using a poor quality disc may be the cause of your problem too.
LQQk for a 4X, +R that you can burn as a DVD-ROM made by a company such as RICOH, Taiyo Yuden's or Verbatim. The old standby, Ritek G04 is also a good bet.
As I requested, we need to know what brand name of disc are you using ?

I don't have a pioneer dvdrw drive so do not have 1st hand experience but believe the buffalo f/w only works with pioneer 109's and 110's.
zenarrow,
Since your drive is not bitset ready (by that I mean you can not bitset/booktype to dvd-rom without a hacked f/w flash), I would recommend trying some good quality DVD-R media and keep burn speed to 4x or under. It would be helpful if you would post the last Nero log less the serial no (usually starts with 1A22) so we can check other things such as media ID, f/w updates, and Nero version. You can find it in C:/Program Files/Ahead/Nero/NeroHistory. The last log is all that is needed.

Hello scubapete.I believe kivory666 may have used that buffalo hack. You may want to pm him.Benqs are all I mess around with. They are sweet, and an excellent price.Nothing cheap about their perfomance.
Both my benq 1620s booktype sweet.+r/+rw/+r dl are set coming out as dvd-rom.This is set through DVD Shrink-booktyping box ticked, and autoburn with my Nero 6.0.0.21b oem.Pretty old,but she burns like the wind and they play virtually anywhere!
This new 1640 is giving me some issues. It's set for dvd-rom through q-suite,but my backups are turning out dvd+r/+rw/and+r dl.Not all the time though.I uninstalled it,and tried using DVD Shrink and my Nero and no dice!
The Q-suite site was being updated last night,so I'll do another install. No compatability issues so far,but all my drives are brand new.

The disc's I use have always been TDK 4X and they show up as RICOH JPN, I can only burn up to 4X also. I do not use any type of poor media. Also I have tried playing the origanal disc's on all the dvd players in my house as well as my PS2. And like wise the disc's I have burned they seemed to have imported the defect from the origanal. I do not use Nero, I do not know if I would get a Nero file would I? Is thier any more info I could get? I would like to thank you guys for trying to help, I would love to crack this problem!!!

Try some DVD-R media. Ricohjpn is DVD+R. You could post a Nero log less the serial no.(usually starts with 1A22 or similiar). Go into C:/Program Files/Ahead/Nero/NeroHistory. We only need the last log.

I have tried the DVD-R same result. I am having no luck finding a Nero log??? The disc's (the origanals) come up as dvd-rom. I wonder if I sent them to one of you guys I wonder if you could get them to work? I would pay for any shipping and blank disc's used. I don't know if it is allowed or not? I don't think it is piracy or anything. I would just like them to be watched on my standalone. I hope this isn't outta lina. ---zen--->

TDK+r 4x ricohs should be pretty good. Cmags make up majority of tdk plus format media.
You are using tdk ricohs, what about those old neighborhood dvds your friend sent you? What brand name/format/speed rating are they?
Just use dvdidentifier to find out, since your pc does recognize that backup. Copy it,and paste it in your next post.
Also download the free version of dvdinfopro and check the PI/PO errors on it.You can get it here:
http://www.dvdinfopro.com/
Do you know what programs and maybe even his burner model he used in producing that backup?
The thread got off to booktyping, and I forget your main issue.Maybe those neighborhood dvds contain:Watermark/poor quality/or many little errors that give stand alones fits.
Another thing to try is another different burn engine like nero.Nero gives me the best results when it comes to stand alone compatability.Dvd decrypter's burn engine is just a hair different and some of my family's very picky players can tell a difference.
I haven't given up yet. I wish you could send me those backups and I'll give them a good try! LOL
I need a good challenge.I got all next week off for vacation.
Edit #2: You posted same time as I did zenarrow. I must be psychic?LOL

Hey saugmon,
I know what you mean about BenQ's. My 1625 is nothing but good :)
As for your 1640, I suggest you checkout CDFreaks. They have some threads addressing problems with that unit.

I got her booktyping again. For how long?
I'll have to keep a close eye on it to see why the booktyping keeps going back to plus settings. Later on scubapete!

Those backups were burned on a tv recorder and either in the wrong mode-should be vr mode, or weren't finalized by your buddy.
