I have burnt avi files onto dvd using the dvd santa .But say for example in a Simpsons series, one episode will play fine with audio but the rest will be out of sync with the picture behind the sound.any suggestions(i'm guessing it's probably blindingly obvious)

Well if the audio Format used in your AVI files was VBR MP3 format then you would end up with out of Sync audio and most downloaded movie Files use this audio format so this could very well be your problem....

To solve this problem you have to decompress the audio in your AVI files before you encode them to DVD....

You can download a Tool that will do this for you here:

Sorry for the quick re-reply but would using this decompression tool correct a problem with audio bit rates? I have a movie that is multiple avi's and it will not let me append them because of an error that the audio bitrate is not the same.

Yes it would help if it was Just the bitrate but if it is the "Sample rate" then it wouldn"t help and you have to decompress the audio in Both files before trying to Join them.....
