Can someone please help me. I have many issues but they all concern the same thing: burning an avi file to a DVD.

by the way I run Mac OSX G5 10.4 and have toast 6, dvd2onex, and ffmegx.

first, is it possible?

second, I have an avi file that is 700 MB and I tried to burn it to a DVD in the video section of Toast 6, but it said the file was too big. I have DVD2onex but it won't let me choose the avi file to compress...is there any other way to compress this? I then read somewhere that I can "save it as disc image and then mount it in toast and the computer will think I inserted a DVD, at which point I can compress it.

first problem with that, I don't understand what I'm supposed to do...I tried to save it as disc image but then what does it mean to "mount it" and how do I do that? And how do I know whether it saved as a "disc image" or not.

Of course the other problem is that I read even if that does work, I have to have a DVD player that plays AVI's which mine probably doesn't...is this true as well?...which brings me to the next issue

Third, am I supposed to convert the avi into something else? (i think I heard someone say mpeg2 or something) BUT even if I do that will be able to compress it in dvd2onex? will I need to? if I do need to convert it, is ffmpegx all i need to do it? if so what is the next step?

i understand this is probably a really annoying post...if all these questions weren't answered I wouldn't blame you...but can anyone help with any of them? even if they weren't all answered can someone at least tell me the easiest way to get from point A to point b. Thanks a lot

I moved it to AVI to dvd since the only mac forum is for ripping. Hopefully this can be solved here :)
