It's been a long time since I last backed up a DVD and I was wondering what's new. What I used to back up my DVD was DVD Decrypter (now extinct I've read) + DVD Fab 0.17 + Instant Copy v7.xx. Have I lost touch with ripping reality? If so, tell me what are you using now

If I always hear voices surrounding me, does it mean Im crazy or that I hear in Dolby 5.1?

Decrypter is still one of the best rippers imo. Just may need a little help from AnyDVD with new Sony stuff starting with Lords of Dogtown.
One prog like decrypter that's still updated and is free is DVDFab Decrypter. Here's a link to dl:

To me though AnyDVD is a must have. Just run it in the background with your ripper of choice.

I'm with binkie7...AnyDVD is a must and if you went to Slysoft I believe they are offering a discount for AD users. I also have CloneDVD 2 from slysoft. My primary progs for backups are:
1. Dvd Rebuilder Pro/CCE Basic: Rebuilder Pro cost $, but there is a free version available. CCE Basic cost $, but the free encoder HC Hanks that comes with Rebuilder installer is awe-some.
www.dvd-Rb.com
2. Recode 2/and or CloneDVD 2. Quick easy and does a great job with good quality. If you have major compression then I feel Rebuilder with CCE or HC will provide an awe-some picture.

3. Intercopy 3 from Intervideo. I don't recommend this unless you dl a trial and see how it works for you. I have had only two problems when re-authoring two WB movies, but beyond that the quality has been fantastic.

I still use DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn for DL backups...Booktype Verbatim DL media to -R or Dvd Rom and they play flawlessly.

Media I use, and learning a lot from the team at AD, is Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Sony's and FuJi's made in Japan, and occasionally Maxell.

Hope this provides some insight as to what is out there.
Welcome to AD!

@DakotaFan, I agree about the talent of Dakota Fanning. I thought one of the creapiest movies that she starred in was Hide and Seek. I know many didn't like it but I loved it and it was kind of creapy and had those jump points as well.

I still use DVD Decrypter for all my ripping needs. As long as you have at least version 3.1.0.0, you can rip any movie out there.

For Larger movies, I combine DVDD with DVD Shrink and VobBlanker. I also use IFOEdit a lot.

If AnyDVD is an option go for it. DVDFab is still being updated, so that one is also great to have.

Going along with JaquarGod, I also use Dvd Remake Pro for editing out credits and other clips of a movie that I just do not want. Shrink and Recode 2 can be used the same way. Clone Dvd 2 can edit out parts using a scissors process...the only thing I do not like about that is that the last chapter with film also includes some credits so if you cut a chapter of credits you also lose a couple of minutes of film...shrink, recode and Remake Pro offer the ability to remove up to frames which is nice. Then I'll run that file through Rebuilder Pro/CCE and it will provide not only video files, but now can create an Iso image which can automatically be capable of burning using the new ImgBurn. There is a variety of programs to meet anyone's needs and provide a great way to backup your collections.

@MovieDud - Yeah, Hide and Seek was a pretty good flick. I went to see it when it was in theaters and bought the DVD when it came out. Are you getting War of the Worlds when it comes out on the 22nd? I saw War of the Worlds twice when it was in theaters. It was my favorite film of the summer. I'm getting the 2-disc edition. It's gonna be packed with all kinds of good stuff. The single disc will practically have nothing but the film.

Single disc edition:

2-Disc Limited Edition:

My DVD Arsenal: BenQ DW1650 Drive, Plextor DVDRW PX-740A Drive, Nero 6.6.0.13, AnyDVD 6.1.8.4, CloneDVD2 2.9.1.2, DVD Shrink 3.2, DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0, DVDFab HD Decrypter 3.2.1.0, VobBlanker 2.1.3.0, RipIt4Me 1.7.1.0, FixVTS 1.6.0.3

It was awe-some, seen it twice as well and loved every minute of it. I will definitely buy the 2-Disk when it arrives. I also have the original WOTW and I will need to get the re-release of that with new sound and video...I'm a movie-holic! Have a good day my friend.

Thanks for your input. I'll look closely at AnyDVD since I want to keep using Decrypter. One more thing, what's HC?

If I always hear voices surrounding me, does it mean Im crazy or that I hear in Dolby 5.1?

HC is an encoder by Hanks...It's a free encoder that is a part of Dvd Rebuilder's installer and works awe-some. During set-up of Rebuilder it is an option to use, if you do not have CCE (Cinema Craft Encoder). www.dvd-rb.com
