I just got my computer built and have ones of these drives that has the plus and minus DVD RW and all that nifty stuff...My question is.
What software or steps do I need to under go to take a movie from DVD and convert it to a single video file (avi, mpeg ?, vcd, or etc). Would like to remove some things off the DVD that I will not need. Thanks for the help in advance guys! :-)
Respectfully,
TR

So do you just want to back up a DVD that you have and be able to rip out any unwanted tracks and special features???
If so then try "DVD shrink" as it will do this for you and when it is Done you just Burn the File it creates for you to DVD.....
You can find it in the software section and it is Freeware....

I can't manage to get DVD Shrink to work at all on my computer. I have WinXP pro. I installed it and when i click on it nothing happens. I went ahead and downloaded DVD Decrypter and have all the VOB files on my drive...is there another program I can use to do what I want to do to make into a single file...with only what i want in it. I posted on another thread on how my DVD Shrink doesn't work but so far no replies.

@Teja
I have XP Pro and had similar problems so I tried CloneDVD & anyDVD with the 21 day trials and I am very pleased and have no coasters yet after 100+ burns.
Others may see others as better because they are free, but sometimes we need to pay for what we want to work right.
With some others freeware works best with them.
Another thing get the best media so far with me, TY's are the best and they can be found @ http://www.rima.com cheap and the best so far (for me that is)
there is always a better solution

@ TejanoRey: what seems to be the exact problem?
Are there any error messages that pop up?

I installed only the version from this site. What happens is that after I double click on the program I see the little hour glass on my mouse for about 1 second and then nothing...

Remove it as it is probably a bad install. I have xp pro on my system and it works great. Go to Add/Remove Programs and remove it.
Get a new fresh download of the program, not the one that you had, and reinstall it.
It will probably work then.

You must be doing something wrong, I just went to the link I provided in my last post and it worked. Click Download and then where it says retry and then download, after that click Run, it will download and leave icon on desktop, double click on that. I also am running XP

OK as you cant get Shrink to work lets try something different. After you have put your DVD through Decrypter it would have sent them to a file on your HD. Try this, download Nero Recode2, open it, import the files and try to edit from there, heres the link, you will only need to download package 2.http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/nero-up.php

so ur saying that shrink didnt even open...correct? u just built the pc right? r u using a copy of windows xp pro that u bought or downloaded? most people i know use the downloaded ones because they didnt get the disc with the pc at purchase. if this is the case try getting another copy of xp pro and reformat. then install shrink and try again. ive never had a problem with shrink on xp pro or home edition.

You have had this trial software on your pc before and the trials have finished.
Basically you will need to get into regedit and delete all relevant files and folders pertaining to shrink,Nero etc .Then re load the software and you will probably get a different outcome. There are probably residue files still lurking around from when you tried to uninstall.
BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN USING REGEDIT.IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING THGEN GET SOME ONE WHO DOES TO SORT THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
