I'm looking to replace my tape camera with something solid-state. I know I'm likely to suffer a quality drop but I'm not too fussed. As long as I can get a reasonable TV playback from burning it to DVD then I'll be happy. One option is a camera that records in MPEG4 format. Is that a reasonable viewing experience on a 32" widescreen TV ?

If you want to burn to DVD, you better choose one that records in MPEG-2. If you buy one that record MPEG-4, you will have to transcode it.
