Hi guys - probably heard this many times before but I am totally stuck. When I copy movies and tv series I have downloaded to a DVD, they do not play in my DVD player - but they do on my PC.

I copied 5 episodes of a TV Series to a DVD and when I played on my DVD home player, the first episode played, but not the other 5!

I downloaded a movie and copied it to DVD, but when I put it in the DVD Player I just get unknown disc.

Theres a lot of stuff people talk about here that I dont understand, so in lamens terms (!) - what am I doing wrong and is there anything I need to be doing before I copy them to DVD? I use Nero 7.

Thanks for your help guys.

If you just want to download and copy, you will need a DVD player that can play Data DVDs. You should post your DVD player model here and maybe someone will come in that can tell you if it is one or not.

If it plays just one, there is a chance the problem is media or burn speed related. Make sure you are using good media. Stay away from stuff like Memorex and TDK. Also do not buy store brands like Office max, Staples, etc... I found that the best media for me is Fujifilm DVD+R 8x made in Japan. If they are made in Taiwan, do not buy them. You can tell because the package will look different than a normal spindle and the label will have "Made in Japan" somewhere. These are Taiyo Yuden Discs, so they are the best you can buy.

You can tell what type of media you have by using programs like DVDIdentifier, DVD Decrypter, DVDinfopro, etc... Look for Media Code or Media Identifier, or something like that. If you see CMC MAG, then you have crap media. For those, burn 4x or less and do not fill the disc. Burn about 4200Mb on it.

When burning limit your burn speed to 4x no matter how fast the media is rated. Also make sure you do not multitask. While burning, just walk away from the computer. It will take about 15 minutes to burn, so for that time just grab a snack or drink a Beer or Coffee.

If your DVD Player cannot play a Data Disc, then you will need to Author a DVD. The easiest way is to Use Nero's "Nero Vision Express". Just import your files into it and follow the wizard. If it seems like it is taking too long or it is not working, then you will need to get a program to encode your files to DVD format (.VOB). There are lots of programs like Avi2DVD, Vso DivXtoDVD, or just stand alone encoders like TMPGEnc, WinAVI, Mainconept, etc...

Look through some guides related to DVD Authoring, AVI to DVD and others that are similar. Also search for some previous posts that are related. I know that I have posted many times for these type of questions and I am sure lots of others have as well.

Thanks for the reply mate - great info there. I know my DVD home player plays copies so it must be the way I am copying them. I'll take a look at your info and see how I go.
Cheers
