HI Guys,
Another noob here,you've probably heard this question asked a thousand times,but here goes anyway.....

I Have searched the forums but cant find a definative guide on this,so any info would be greatly appreciated,the site is a great source of info for me ,im hoping you guys come thru for me again!

I Have a mac ibook G4 "12,Currently running MAC OS X 10.3.9,i know how to download the torrent files for games,but what do i need to do after that?from what i can gather i will need a lacie burner which i have found and will order once i am clearer on it.

Will the toast software i will get with the burner be sufficient for me to burn to file with?what else other than the burner and toast will i need,also does it matter ,what media i use to burn to ie, dvd r/w dvd r,cd -rw,cd -r etc..

I Also understand i will need swap magic and a flip top gadget which i have lined up should i get the info i need,am i missing anything obvious,as i say i am after a guide on how to do it from the top,will all the apps and bits and bobs i will need along the way.

Many Thanks in advance for any help with this guys,i know its painful doing this stuff for newbies,but it is appreicated,and i will pass on any knowledge i gain and pass it on to people like myself looking for solutions like i am.

hi,
here's how i rebuilt and backed up ssx on tour under mac 10.3.9

1. the tools - what i'm using:

- virtual pc 7 & windows 2k for vpc7 on mac os 10.3.9
- toast 6.1.1 for mac os x
- cd/dvd generator 2.0 for win2k
- isobuster 1.6 for win2k

2. the method - what i did:

- get a lot of space on your hard drive (10gb should do the job, probably less...)
- set up a new drive for vpc and format (quick format) it as ntfs (we'll call this drive the E: drive). this is the only way to get file bigger than 4gb on it. network drives and shared folders won't work with isobuster
- make an image of you dvd using toast on os x. rename it ssx.iso
- copy the iso onto E:
- create a folder called SSX on your win2k desktop, then create two folders in SSX: one called FILES, the other called IML
- use isobuster to extract the files from the iso to the FILES folder (just browse the iso, and ctrl-click on the files you see in the right window)
- write down the order in which the files come up in the right window
- close isobuster and launch cd/dvd generator
- choose "create new project" then "dvd-rom master disc"
- drag and drop the files from FILES into the right window of cd/dvd generator in the order you wrote down 3 steps earlier. drag and drop them one by one
- click volume and then enter the following:
. disc name: SLES - 53552 (this number's given by one of the files in the root directory of the iso. it's different for every game. in this case, the file was called SLES_535.52, therefore the disc name is SLES - 53552)
. producer name: PLAYSTATION
. license area: basically where the game comes from
- click the "record" button on the top right corner and browse the IML folder. name your files ssx.iml - not sure it's called the "record" button though. my vpc window's too small to see it ;) but it's the button with the golden disc on it
- you then get two errors. ignore them. it creates two files: ssx.iml and ssx.ims
- it launches a new tool. select file>export image and browse the IML. name your file ssx.lst. it creates three files: ssx.000, ssx.001 and ssx.lst
- open a dos command line (Start>Run then Open: cmd). go to the folder IML and execute the following: copy /b ssx.000 + ssx.001 ssx.iso
- and here we are: a small iso (1372000 KB) that you can burn with disk utility under mac os x and use with swapmagic on your ps2. i burned it on a "normal" DVD-R, no big brand, speed 4x. i used my lacie external dvd burner with upgraded firmware (v1.09). and it works !!!

it basically took me a few days to understand the procedure with vpc and get all of this working. but after half a dozen coasters (oops...) it's really satisfying to succeed in it ! my first ps2 backup, and on mac ! yeehee !!! ;)

Thanks alot for the reply,did you download your virtual pc or buy it?i have downlaoded a version but i am getting an erro message i cant seem to find the solution for it says:

missing or old bill of materials
when i try to install,is this because i am trying to install a downloaded version?

Thank you very much for the extensive information. I tried your system and got a little stumped. I am trying to rebuild "The Ultimate Spiderman" My goal is to replace the DUMMT.DAT that exists on this game. I made it pretty far. If you don't mind, I have a few questions that I would like to ask you?

In the Volume area do we type anything in the "copyright holder' area?

New tool? Is this a new app? Nothing launched.

my only choices of selections were>>>> Export>IML and Export map file

I did this and it named only two files called
ssx.lst.iml and ssx.list.ims
I did not see any of the 3 files

DOS command - ouch. Not too familiar with this. Kind of like the terminal window right? I opened up something called "command prompt". I may need a little bit more help in this section. Start>Run then open: cmd) I got a little lost at this point. I copied and pasted "copy /b ssx.000 + ssx.001 ssx.iso"
