I successfully installed my DMS4 lite today. It was a slow and difficult trip that lasted about 4 hours but I got there. I have some soldering experience, but my abilities were pushed to the edge. I am not lying when I say that I didn't believe for one minute that this was going to work. Imagine my surprise when I powered up my PS2 v.12 and it worked!

What I would recommend for anyone attempting this for the first time is this:

Do not use solid wire for this. Tinning alone doesn't cut it. Use stranded wire. Stranded wire will wick up more solder and will make a nice tack on those extremely tiny and crowded solder points. This brings me to my second tip.

Buy or borrow a magnifying lamp. Maybe I'm just getting old, but I really needed that thing and it made it much easier. If you can't afford the lamp, at least get the magnifier from Radio Shack--$12.

Don't plan on using an iron more than 15W. You can if you're really good, but just be careful. The VIA connectors can't take too much heat.

I had some trouble booting the flash disk too. I used Alcohol 120% the fist time and I got the RSOD. Then I tried again using NERO and it worked fine. I'm sure it was something I was doing wrong and not the fault of Alcohol 120 though. Point: try another burning program before assuming you wired something wrong.

My last piece of wisdom...Be patient, Don't drink coffee before you start, and be patient. Take some breaks, and did I say........be patient?

If you are having difficulty opening the case, you may want to hire someone. Opening the case is pretty straight forward.
