i been burning movies for a while now,and hardly ran into any major problems that couldnt be fixed.I burned 8 movies yesterday and for some reason only 2 of the 6 discs will actually load in my dvd player.i burned all 8 the same exact way, shrink, then nero.i got no errors for any of them, after each one was done,it said"dvdshrink has successfully burned dvd".the movies clearly burned cause, you can tell by looking at the actual disc, the majority of the disc is light purple and the outer edge is dark purple,so clearly it should be on the disc, right?

you are probably using crap media or burning too fast.

A few details of media used, burning speed, progams used etc would be useful

my burner- sony dru-710a
discs- nexxtech DVD-R 8x
burning speed- 8x
programs used-shrink,then Nero ver.6 to burn and sometimes decrypter if the discs copyright protection is too strong for shrink.

i know what you'll say the discs i buy are crap,i bought them cause they were on sale at circuit city for $6 for a 25 spindle,i bought 8 spindles,i went through 4 already, thats 100 discs without any problems.i just come to find out that the bad discs i originally started this thread about will load and play,in my cpu,my laptop, and my home standalone player, just wont play on my portable dvd player.but all the other movies ive burned on the nexxtech discs play just fine on my portable, just not the last 6.the player says "wrong disc format",its never happened before.would you suggest i burn with decrypter as opposed to Nero.or does this problem lye within something else?thanks in advance for reply

Sounds like crappola media to me!

Do you have any MID codes from them, and check from several different spindles because that code may change from spindle to spindle.

Those cheaper manufacturers set very low specs on their media.Stand alone players can have a harder time with the crap media.By giving you playback issues,it means they don't like something about your backups.Since it's not every disc, investigate how much compression was used on the backups that play vs the backups that don't get recognized. The higher compression will give low quality media a fit.

Slow down the burn speed to 4x,maybe even lower.

Your sony dru 710 is a rebadged lite-on.It's got the capability to booktype the plus format to dvd-rom just for these No Disc Inserted errors.Keep this in mind for future reference.

As Saugmon says...

Here is a link that will explain it: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=46559

I would suggest the +format booktyped to DVD-ROM and then the non-recognition issue should go away.

Get better media too.

Cheers.

Yep really Crappy Media http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?dvdmediasearch=nexxtech&dvd...

Because it is crap media try burning at 2x or 4x don't burn at full speed... You shouldn't burn at full speed regaurdless the media.. You will get better results at slower speeds

thanks for the replys guys,i clicked on that click about people who had experiences with nexxtech blank media.thanks for that by the way.so i think i might go back to what i originally started using with my burner maxell's which worked great.when i first saw the ad in the circuit city sale paper i figured what the hell, for $6 i could buy 1 spindle and give them a test drive, went through all 25 without a problem.so went back the next day picked up 7 more spindles.anyway i took the discs that wouldnt load in my portable, ran them through shrink again, burned them with Nero again,i did 3 so far and they seem to be playing fine now.anyway thanks for all your comments and help.
