I am trying to capture from my Canon ZR 200 to my computer. Guess what?
That's right, nothing I have tried has let me complete the prossess.
Dig this. This is what is happening and following is the fixes I have tried.
If I try to capture in Windows Movie Maker I get the black screen and at the end of the capture I get a (not verbetim) 'can't read and edit movie file, file corrupted or missing data'.
Nero is the same although I can view the capture as it's progessing. I still receive a similar message at the end about the file not being able to be edited or loaded to the clipboard for that matter.

In both cases an AVI file is created at it's destination.
This file can be played in Nero Showtime.
But, it can't be played VLC of all things.

TMPGE will not recognize it in order to encode.

Video only will open in Sound Forge 6.

By the way I am dumping with a three port firewire pci.

Here's what I've tried:
1. I've tried DV/AVI in type 1 and 2 capture mode.
2. I have the inf. file with camera info.
3. I have rolled back drivers to Service Pack 1.
4. I have tried to encode with TMPGE.

I actually tried more fixes I've read of in the threads during the past week... I can't remember all.
'Bout the only thing I haven't tried is updating my Bios. And with what I found out about having to pull the chip if the new Bios is corrupt, I don't want to go there yet.

As I find this forum informative and fun I welcome any suggestions as to getting this bugger down-pat. I would hate to by a stand-alone just for our home movies.

Thanks again.

I take it you can capture to AVI, but can't encode, right? In that case, I'll suggest you try one or more of the followings:

1) Capture with another program (e.g. DVDSanta)

2) Update your codecs (try K-Lite codec Pack-full or mega version)

3) Change the codec of the AVI with e.g. Power Video Converter or X Video Converter (try set video to XviD, and audio to mpeg layer 3).

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. It took a while but I got around to loading k-lite and some of my existing codecs had corrupted registry issues.
Everything is fine now.
Thanks again.
