I have been using dvd decrypter as my DVD ripping/decrypting program. Naturally, I thought that my DVD-ROM (HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8160B) would rip faster than my DVD-RW (Pioneer DVR 104), but the ROM only averages 1.5x while the DVD-RW averages 2.1x. My DVD-ROM specs state that it can read dvd at 16x, I know its not going to decrypt that fast, but can I break the 2.1x barrier with this hardware?

Replace your DVD-Rom with a LiteON LTD 163/165/166 and rip at 12-13 speed (average). Recent firmware updates for these 3 drives allows the drive to read ANY media at present.
Also can read video text, cd text, cd+g,and correct c2 errors. These 3 drives can also read the latest Safedisc 2.8.x& SecuROM 4.8.x. Superior dae speeds and accuracy, need I say more?

Neromania,
Thanks for the link. The problem lies within DVD Decrypter, NOT the LiteON DVD-Rom(S). The author of DVD Decrypter even stated that there will be a fix in future new releases. I own a Litey LTD 165/166 and have had NO[ hardware or software problems backing up dvd's. Once again, "pound for pound" the Litey LTD 163/165/166 DVD-Roms are superior for dvd rips, data, dae speed, dae accuracy, ability to read Safedisc 2.8.x& SecuROM 4.8.x. These drives can READ all media (at present, firmware update(s).

My Sony DRU-500AX has ripped everyting fine using DVD Decrypter. Today I recieved my lite-on 166s and it would not rip "Independence Day" could not unlock it. upgraded to the newest DVD Decrypter 3.1.5.0 and it took some time but it was able to finally crack the decryption and rip the movie.

Open DVD Decrypter and go to tools>settings>I/O tab folder and check the box "ignore read errors" and set to 5 for software/hardware write retries. Be sure that you clean a dvd with non absorbent material such as rubbing alcohol and a q-tip and clean with a slightly damp cloth. Go to the Device tab folder and check the box "fast error skip" and set hardware retries to 5.
