Hi all!
I've searched around the forums (great info here!) but I cannot find a solution to this problem. I'm backing up my box set of LOST (US version) and so far I have only succeeded in wasting DVD-R's!
DVDShrink3.2 works for nearly everything I throw at it, but I can't get this one to work. It produces disks with no error shown, but I can't play them back on my (Region 2) DVD player - even though it plays every region and all my other backups OK.
I wonder is the problem that the originals are NTSC or have they come up with a DVD Shrink-beater with LOST?! Am I missing something here?
Thanks!

What kind of media are you using? I know it is DVD-R but what brand?
What speed are you burning at?
Suprised that you do not get any type of error notification.
DVDShrink and DVDdecrypter are no longer supported so some of the newer encryptions are not handled by them and you have to try something else such as DVDFab decrypter or AnyDVD.

dingdood ,
Welcome to the forum. If you are in region 2 then you might have a PAL DVD Player and you will need to convert the NTSC to PAL format. Even though the disk is region free does not mean it can play the incorrect format.

Hi guys and thanks for the speedy responses!
9mmruger1, I am using a fairly cheap brand "PC-LINE" (about 30Euros [~$35] for a cake of 25) but I haven't really had this problem with other backups. If you think its worth it, I'll try it with a better brand. I burn at 4X, the max my Phillips DVD+-RW DVD 8631 supports (same for all discs I burn). No errors reported at all! You have a point about the s/w not being supported... DVDShrink is such a cool program - I'd be reluctant to give up on it! :-)
Car.Mike, I've never converted an NTSC to PAL before, what progs would you recommend (freeware preferably!)? My player is a hacked (via the remote control) cheapo player (Wharfdale) and plays the originals no bother (well, slight hitch in the picture-flow every few seconds, but not really noticeable).
Thanks for the input!!

dingdood,
Below is a cheap player that will play both NTSC and PAL format DVD's. See if you can find it in your area by Googling for it.
CyberHome CH-DVD 300S Progressive-Scan DVD Player
Try the program below as the price is right- Free. This is a beta version but it is not that bad as I have been told

Well guys, it looks like the media was the problem after all! I went out and got some Verbatim 8X DVD-R (Advanced AZO) discs and the whole box-set backed up (at 8X speed) just dandy using DVDShrink!
I wish I had more details of the media that caused the problem (threw away the packaging!! 8-/ ) but I'm sure the brand was PC-LINE (2X speed). However, I had none of these problems with the rest of this batch...
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I was coming to the bottom of my 'cake' (25) of media. I remember hearing somewhere that the last few discs could be unreliable, due to movement in transit creating imperfections??
Anyway, thanks very much for your help. I hope this thread might help anyone else scratching their head with this problem!!
:-)

Great news. The media that you use is incredibly important for long time storage and quality of burn.
Keep visiting the forum and read read read. So much to learn and so little time....LOL
