can anyone help, all i need is some software to protect my DATA cd from being copied.
im putting a manual in pdf format on disc and selling it on, but it will be to easy for people to copy it.
please help !!!
also i dont want to be sending out passwords to activate it, i just need a simple way of doing it so people with a cd writer cant copy it
You should use PGP ware (Pretty Good Privacy). It lets you encrypt the files on the CD so they can not be copied. PGP is freeware but I do not know where to download it from.
not to say that this will keep the manual from being copied, but if its in pdf form, could password protect it to make it harder for those with a copy to use, just print the password on the cd, and make it long, like 12-17 characters and numbers, it sucks with software, but it will help.
Found a download link for pgp8.0, its free, you could also put a key on the cd in addition to the acrobat password, It may not keep them from being copied, but if both pgp and the acrobate password are used with different and fairly long keys, it would be harder to copy than 99% of software is today. But lets just admit, that no matter how hard you or others try, if someone wants to copy something in a digital medium that is not being kept under lock and key by the creator, they will be able to. Just try what I have said, here's the link: http://www.pgp.com/display.php?pageID=83
no, but it would also not let the dvd movie be playable in anything but a computer after the data has been decrypted. PGP is not useful for video or audio, and in reality anything that is going to be distributed. It is excelent for sending files over un/secure connections for added security.
If anybody wants to encrypt CDs like movies, Playstation or Playstation 2 than you just take a good parmanent marker and draw a very thin line tangent to the end of the data track. This will corrupt the ending part and some file will not get copied. Mail me for a pic
