Mini DVD vs Full Size DVD

from what I researched, the ONLY disadvantage of using Full Size DVDs is that it is supposed to weaken GC's lens faster than the mini ones, but is this true and confirmed ? Because they're actually the very same media, just the size's thats different.
and of course, if anyone here know any other disadvantages, please let the n00bies here know =)

You'll have to buy a full-sized casemod.
And it isn't the laser that burns out faster, it's the motor. Because of the increased mass, it takes more energy to spin the disc, which means more mechanical force being used on the motor, which burns it out a lot faster than it would normally.

The motor is going to burn out eventually regardless of what media is used. All silver95 is saying is that full size DVD-Rs will burn out the motor faster than mini DVD-Rs will.
The advantage of full size DVD-Rs is that they cost considerably less than mini DVD-Rs. Ten DVD-Rs cost as much as three mini DVD-Rs for example.

exactly... thats the main reason why I started this thread, I want to know whether its worth it to use full-sized DVDs and then shorten the lifespan of my GC motor OR to use mini size DVDs ( and thus use more money to buy them, plus the risk of error in burning ) and have the original lifespan of the Cube..
anyone experiencing the same irony ? =___=

I'm sure we aren't talking about saving years on the life of the motor here. Maybe a couple months at best would be gained from using mini discs over the full-sized ones.....at least thats my opinion but i could be wrong.

I honestly doubt you'll be able to burn out the motor under normal gameplay conditions. Take for example those GCs they stick in McDonalds. Those things run 24/7 and are never off. They run fine for the most part.

Lol, true but mcdonalds aint open 24 hours a day. They might switch them in and out from time to time when there closed.

GC has same motor than Playstation, DVD-players, computer's DVD-drive... It's same type in every CD/DVD products novadays. And if u think: " it cant be same, they have different burning speeds!", in burning, it writes more data on one spin.
And best reason to get full-size DVDs is the price.

I used to work at McDonalds and we never turned it off even after closing time.
Also, some McDonald's are open 24 hours. Such as the ones on highway exits and roads with high volumes of traffic.

Uh... no, sorry Quezacotl, but they don't burn more data in 1 pass. It really is a matter of the speed the disc is rotating. Just like in CD burners. Some discs are rated only for a certain speed, because it's a minimum burn-in period of the dye used in the pressing process.
Oddly enough, my DVD burner has a faster burn speed(max 16x) than the read speed(max 12x).
But, as for the amount of time until the drive motor burns out... because the GC uses smaller, lighter media, it doesn't need to use as much mechanical force to spin the disc, which will stretch the lifespan of the drive out by years under regular use. Meaning, while you might get 5-8 years out of a standard PSX before the drive blows, assuming only normal use, you could get 10-12 years out of the Gamecube before the motor is dead.
