Hello, i have a 200gb maxtor hd and when i just reconnected it to my ps2 and formatted it with hd advance 2.0 it only read 31gb. I then plugged it back into my computer and reformatted it and it still only reads 31gb. What can be the problem? the drive was working perfectly fine before i connected it to the ps2. I had it connected to the ps2 monthes back and it worked fine then i put it in my pc and it was fine but now its not working in either.

Well it has created a smaller partition on you hard drive, use partition magic on your comp to remove the partition and create a new fresh 200GB partition, it is quite simple, any problems just post back.

I used the maxblast that came with the hard drive and still nothing. I deleted the partition and tried again and again but everytime I tried it would only make a 31gb partition. I had no problems settings the partitions with maxblast on this drive in the past. Should i still give partition magic a shot or do you think theres something else? Thanks .

Ok I just tried maxblast again and it finally worked this time. Is there any reason why HD advance would set up a partition like that on my hard drive? I tried using winhiip to format it but then when i put it into the ps2 hd advance still asks to reformat.

hmm, well try another format on the hd advance and see what happens, HD Advance should support a big hard drive, what is the max capacity HD Advance will accept, when you format it it should be formatted using NTFS, and try to change the jumper to the opposite of what it is and see what happens. Try and put the jumper on cable select if your hard drive has that connection.
Give me the name and model number of your hd, i will see what i can find.

I'll search for the name and model of harddrive, but when i first got it and formatted it with hd advance it was fine it read the whole drive. Then i used the hd for my pc for a few monthes and no problem. Last night i tried to connect it to the ps2 again and thats when it messed up, only it would then read 31gb in the ps2 and the pc even though i formatted and re partioned several times. i finally got it to read the full size on the pc by booting up with maxblast. So after i did that I tried it back in the ps2 again and it reformatted to 31gb again. I tried changing the jumpers and all still no luck. Is there a program that I can format the hd for hd advance straight through the pc or is winhiips hd loader format the same thing as hd advance?

How do i select different format options on hd advance? when i start it up it just says the hd needs to be formatted and then when i press ok it automatically formats it. Do you think it would matter whether i use the hd advance cd or dvd?

Yeah I tried the jumpers, I'm partitioning it with NTFS and the partion works fine on the computer and if I format it with winhiip it seems to format with no problem but then when I load it up in hd advance it asks to reformat still. I tried to format with hd loader on the ps2 and the same thing happened. As of right now I think the only thing left to try is the hd advance dvd but mine almost never works. Is there a way to restore the drive to factory settings? Because when i first bought the drive i put it in the ps2 and formatted that way, never put the drive in a computer. Thanks for all your help, I'll keep working on it and post if I have any luck.

The utility disc works fine on the pc, I'm able to format it and partition it no problem. Its just when I boot it up in the ps2 it automatically reformats. Right now i set maxblast to zero out the drive and when its done im gonna try it again. My dvd version of hd advance works but very rarely I'm pretty sure its because of the laser and my ps2 isn't modded.

That's weird that it's still doing that even after you've tried changing the jumpers aroound. I have a Seagate Barracuda and there's a jumper setting to limit the HD capacity to like 31GB or 32GB. I saw that and I said to myself "how convenient" lol.

There is a jumper setting on the drive that says "limit" but i've never used that jumper setting. I'm still waiting for the zero out process to complete, hopefully that will fix things.

Be sure that when you format it, you format under 48-bit LBA and not 24-bit. 48-bit is for hard drive larger than 120GB. This could be your problem.
