Hi,

Just wanna confirm this little thing, cause I'm not really sure about it.

Basically:

1. a good DVD media (the one with good dye coating) will prevent your laser from working extra hard as in the case of using el-cheapo DVD medias.

2. One of the reasons for burning at lower speed is to allow the data to be properly skipped, which will prevent the game from "jumping" while you're playing it?

So my question is, if I have a some backup DVDs (Ritek, which is good ones) but they were burned at high speed (eg. 8X), is there actually any point of re-burning the backup DVD again at lower speed? (although the DVD media is a good one)

Since I assume, if the game was burned at high speed, so any skipped data would not be recovered at all even though you burn the game again at lower speed (using the backup DVD, not the original game as a source), thus making it pointless? Unless there is some sort of benefit like media burned at lower speed is easier for the lens to read (which I don't think so, but it's more dependant on the DVD media quality itself, not the speed you use?)

So do you think re-burning the Copy at lower speed (not using original copy) will give any benefit at all?

nope. if you have good media then the ps2 reads it the same way if it were burned at 4x then 8x. burning at 4x is the standard for getting a good burn. in my experience you would be wasting your time making a back-up of the copy

the DVD media that I am talking about is Ritek DVD -R 8X, I think it was burned at 8X as well.

So there is no point for me to reburn it in lower speed using that copy of the burned one as the source?

I assume that Ritek one (burnt at 8X) won't make the laser work extra hard?

The reason why I am asking this is because I really don't wanna put extra pressure on the PS2 laser.
