Three of the last four movies I have tried to backup are not working with Clone DVD. I have tried a combination of decryption programs with no efect at all. DVD Decrypter, DVD FabDecrypter, DVD43. All seem to strip the CSS fine, however when I open up Clone DVD I get one of two errors descibed below.
XXX: State of the Union and Madagascar give this error in the first screen of CloneDVD where you pick which chapters you want to keep:
Quote: invalid block start code
one or more blocks might be corrupted by a prior copying process
or by the source device covering critical read errors. Try copying
the video files to your harddrive (again) and retry.

Skeleton Key gives this error:
Quote: unexpected error
Please be sure that all the input files are available and that they
represent a properly mastered DVD.
If the error persists, please send an error description to
bugs@elby.ch.
Now, I tried American History X just to see what would happen and it works just fine??? Any help is greatly appreciated with this. I can't even understand the errors so if nothing else if someone can explain them maybe I can go from there.
I have seen the first problem happen before when the last movie that was done is still in the temp folder so first goto My Computer click on it then Right click on the Hard Disc Icon you should see the Clone DVD Temp folder
Now open it up and see if there are Ifo and Bup files in the Video TS folder if there are just Delete them and you should be good to go
I ran across this problem just a few days ago aslo you may want to make sure the Delete Files after Burning box is checked
Did my best to make it easy for you to figure out since I am not sure about your Computer skills
Now for the second issue you are having This could be a Bad Pressing on the Disc it could also be a new kind of Protection
Have you ever tried Slysofts AnyDVD if not I would download the Trial Version from the Software Section here at AD
Heres a Link
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/anyd... This program is worth its wieght in Gold and usaully when a new Protection comes out they are the first to break it also it will protect you from Sony's Rootkit found on their Audio CDs so try this first and if you still cant copy Skeleton Key I would take the disc back and get a replacement
Please post your results
:)

Worked perfectly. I cleared the temp folder and that error went away, unfortunatly I then got the "Invalid block start code" error on Skeleton Key too. But the good news is the unespected error went away so now I know what that means and how to fix THAT error. FYI my computer skills = search afterdawn when something goes wrong :-) computer smart I am not (but I do know where the search is, that should count for something right! ;-)

Got AnyDVD and the error went away, movies coppied fine! (yeah) Just for fun (and keep in mind I don't understand most somputer speek) I checked AnyDVD after it un-encrypted the movies. In AnyDVD, under the protection tab (where it shows what protections are on the disk) the first protection I saw that it had overridden was something about (sorry I didn't write it down) a non DVD file sector? Can you explain this? It dosen't matter for any reason other than I am currious what this means.
At any rate, using AnyDVD worked on all the movies I was backing up and I thank you for you help and input about this.
Glad I was able to help you
Now for you question about what you are seeing
Here is a copy of it
Summary for drive E: (AnyDVD 5.5.1.1)
Drive (Hardware) Region: 1
Media is a Data DVD.
Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (opposite)
Video DVD (or CD) label: MADAGASCAR
Media is CSS protected!
Video Standard: NTSC
Media is locked to region(s): 1!
RCE protection not found.
Found & removed wrong DVD structure!
Found & removed structural copy protection (Arccos, Puppetlock)!
Found & removed Autorun from Video DVD!
Found & removed 1 bad sector protections!
Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 1!
Some Protections use incorrect Structures and Bad Sectors to prevent you from copying them like Arccos, and Puppetlock you see above
Any DVD Bypasses this so you can copy the disc
I am sure if you search the forum you will find a better answer about these protections I am no expert on these protections
The MPAA are using these and new variants on alot of New Releases
