Using non official hard drive to use as a memory card?

I was wondering if there is a way to use a non official hard drive for the PS2 as a memory card like you could use with the official sony HDD? I wanted to ask because there are some online games that take so much memory to update and want to put my old game files on the hard drive.

You cant save directly to the hd while playing a game, but you can transfer game saves from your memory card to the hd and vice versa. But, I don't know the name of the program.
