I want to burn my DVDs with DeCrypter. Do I need to select 'Output to ISO Image File'?

how will tom be able to burn to dvd without eihter reducing the data (via rebuilder - that's the tool this subforum is named after) or using DL media?

in order to burn with decrypter or better its successor by the name IMGBURN you will have to select "output to iso..."

of course you should rename the original decrypter.exe to something slightly different BEFORE imgburn takes its place or otherwise you wont have the decryption-engine any longer

Hi Uncas,
I checked out IMGBURN and as you indicate, it looks like the preferred way to burn now.
I'm not sure what you mean about renaming decrypter.exe. In Windows Explorer for XP Pro, when I look at my DVD Decrypter folder, it doesn't tell me the name of the file extensions. I specify to look at the list using details and they get listed as "text documents" or "applications". They're are only two application files though, DVDDecypter and uninstall.
So should I just rename DVDDecrypter? And will that require any adjustments to be made when using DeCrypter to rip?

In Windows XP open any folder ("My Computer" or "My Documents" are good ones). Then...
* Select "Tools"|"Folder Options"
* Select the "View" tab and then
* Scroll down to the entry that says "Hide file extensions for known file types" and make certain it's not checked
* Click on the "Apply To All Folders" button and then close the window

Hi Uncas,
That worked. I can see the extensions now. That's better in general.
So anyway, just to be clear, I would need to rename DVDDecryper before installing IMGBURN? I could just throw a number 2 on the end of it or something. Can that be done without anything weird happening like it not opening when I click on the desktop icon for it or it losing any functionality?

To answer your original question: Place the DVD, you want to copy, into a PC DVD drive. Wait about 15 seconds, then open DVD Decrypter (DD). DD will find which drive your DVD is in. (If you have DVDs in 2 or more drives, then you'll need to direct DD to the proper drive.) At the top menu bar of DD, open Mode, and ensure that ISO / Read is checked. Then, go to the bottom of DD and click anywhere on the picture of the DVD, triangle and hard drive. DD will populate a Destination field with something like: C:\DVDIMAGE.ISO . If you want the .iso file to be placed in a different folder, click on the folder icon, on the right, and go to the folder you want. You can also rename the file, but be sure to leave the .iso at the end of it. When that's done, click on the bottom image again, and DD will create an .iso file, of the DVD, in the folder you designated. I didn't know this for the longest, but an .iso file is just a sort of "container" for the DVD. It can't be played that way (with normal software), but is made just to hold the content, until you later burn it to another DVD, which is not .iso, but just the DVD content itself. NOTE! If you have a regular, one-layer disc DVD burner, you can burn a maximum of 4438Mb, so if DD makes an .iso file larger than this (excluding the few Mb used by the .iso "shell" itself), you'll be limited to 4438Mb to burn, on the DVD+or-R. After DD creates the .iso file, it will tell you it's finished. Close DD, and open a program that will let you burn a DVD from an .iso file (like my trusty TMPEnc DVD Author) and burn the DVD. Afterward, you can either keep the .iso file on your PC, if you plan to make a few more copies, or just delete it, since it's so easy to recreate, using DD. Hope this helps. And, to other readers, please let me know of any errors you see (although this is pretty straightforward, at least on my PC; Windows XP home, SP2, 2.2GHz). Russell KCTexan

installing imgburn can be done at any time
the renaming of decrypter must be done before you copy the imgburn.exe into the folder where decrypter is installed as imgburn.exe will have to be renamed to dvddecrypter.exe and an existing file with the very same name will make this impossible

to do so simply click => MODE => ISO => WRITE and select the image

It's just old habits. I'm used to using MPGEnc DVD Author, but I certainly could use DVD Decrypter to burn the finished DVD. Thanks for this good advice! RAF

I'm still a little confused.
It seems to me your saying if I download IMGBURN it will take the place of DeCrypter because IMGBURN is named DVDDecypter.exe. That seems weird.
So I renamed DVDDecyrpter.exe anyway. Then I downloaded IMGBURN and ran it with it's own Wizard. It created and installed itself into a new directory called ImgBurn under C:\Program Files.
You were saying something about installing it in the DVDDecrypter folder. That is not what happened. And I don't see a file named DVDDecrypter in ImgBurn anyway.
I feel like I must still be missing something.
BTW, I registered to get onto the IMGBURN forum but it didn't send me a confirm email and now when I try to access the forum login I get an error.

what you did so far is more than fine and correct
having renamed dvddecrypter.exe to something else you can now COPY the imgburn.exe into your decrypter directory and then rename the imgburn.exe to that very name, which shrink will call: dvddecrypter.exe

OK Uncas.
Is the reason to do this so that when I open DVDDecrypt to do a rip, it will still work, but when I Autoburn after encoding from Rebuilder (or say DVD Shrink)it will burn using imgburn?

the reason for all this is:
being able to burn with imgburn (which is the newer burning engine than decrxpter) after shrink has finished wihtout any further user-interaction and still be able to use the decryption engine

Hi Uncas,
I just found out in a thread about this same topic that I started on the Rebuilder forums about the same time I started this one, that if one is using the latest version of Rebuilder and ImgBurn, you don't have to do the file renaming and copying thing. In the meantime, I just completed a burn the way you said to set it up and it seems to have gone though fine. I haven't viewed the disk yet though.

i'm sorry it was all my fault
i thought we were talking about burning an iso with DVDSHRINK
i didnt realize i was replying in the rebuilder forum and overlooked the hint you gave in the very first posting
must have mixed up something here with another post, sorry
using REBUILDER you dont have to copy&rename anything at all, with SHRINK, however, it is necessary

there IS something else you need
the tool to reduce the data: dvd rebuilder
i consider rebuilder WAY better than shirnk simply because it uses ENcoder not TRANScoder and by doing so provides me with better quality when it comes to demanding data reduction
