A major problem I have run up against, is assuming that all I have to do is change the region code on a DVD and magically I will be able to play it. I live in the U.S. and most other DVDs world wide will NOT work here and conversely. The problem is NOT the region code, but the format the DVD is recorded in. The U.S uses NTSC format and it seems most others, particularly Europe, most of Asia, and Pacific Basin countries use PAL format. YOU CAN NOT play NTSC on PAL standalone DVD players or the reverse. PC DVD players can play both formats, and you can use DVD Decrypter or ANYDVD to reburn the DVD in your regional code or at least remove regional protection.
If you can hook you PC to your television input (XP MEDIA edition will help do this) then you can watch on big screen. Otherwise you will just have to use your PC. I have yet to find any software that will successfully convert PAL to NTSC, and I HAVE tried.

Just buy a DVD player that support PAL and NTSC.
