Question about DIGITAL COAX. Can I use a regular RCA cable instead of a DIGITAL COAX cable and still get surround sound via DTS and DD5.1?

Can I use a regular RCA cable instead of a DIGITAL COAX cable and still get surround sound via DTS and DD5.1?

I know it sounds stupid, but I just want to know if it will work and if quality will be the same.

i'd suggest to use either the coax out from your (i assume) dvd player, but if it has an optical, use that instead. both are digital outputs, and the rca's are analog outs....

Chocomog, although I believe you could I wouldn't recommend it. To be honest I've been to scared to try it so I can't advise based on my experience - just from what I read. Digital Coax cable is usually thicker that typical RCA-type interconnects because of more shielding and because it handles a higher bandwidth signal.

I'd definately go with a digital coax, but if you MUST, you can use an rca cable, but use the yellow, video cable. It's a 75 ohm cable, and will be better than the red or white cables.

Wal Mart has a decent digital coax cable for about $12. Surely you can stand that?

Using an RCA plug just didn't work in mine ... thought I'd try it to save a few bucks...Gerry

all it requires is 75ohm coax and guess what, that is the cable for your cable tv. If you mut, you can use the composite cable, but make sure it is coax and not the thin crappy cable that comes with your equipment.
