I just backed up Charlie and the Chocolate factory on a DVD+R DL
using a Benq 1640. I used DVD Decrypter in ISO mode to rip and burn it. I ran Nero CD-DVD speed, the media type reads DVD+DL. It did the same on QSuite. When I burn I always make sure it is set to booktype DVD-rom. What program will confirm it is in fact a DVD-rom?

Here's my last DL backup using dvdidentifier:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R-DL:MKM-001-000]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc & Book Type : [DVD+R DL] - [DVD-ROM]
Manufacturer Name : [Mitsubishi Kagaku Media]
Manufacturer ID : [MKM]
Media Type ID : [001]
Product Revision : [Not Specified]
Blank Disc Capacity : [4,173,824 Sectors = 8.55 GB (7.96 GiB)]
Recording Speeds : []
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[ DVD Identifier - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notice where it says booktype. If if wasn't booktyped,it'll say DVD+R DL.
I've been running into trouble with q-scan.My last few backups say DVD+R when they should be dvd-rom. I'll have to investigate this bug.It did it to me a few days after I first downloaded q-suite and now on my spare pc since I downloaded q-suite on it.

Do you have QSuite v2.0 or v2.1?
I had problems similar to yours with v2.1, so I went back to v2.0
Also on 'Solid Burn' by 'supported disc' I checked the 'activated' box then clicked 'set' .. I improved my scans a little for some reason by doing this ... not sure why

I've got 2.0.
The weird thing, when I first popped this 1640 drive in-I updated the firmware and downloaded q-suite and set it up for dvd-rom.A few days later,that program was gone after checking and posting my PI/PO scans.That's where I noticed the backups were still DVD+R instead of dvd-rom. So I downloaded q-suite 2.0 again. Now I went to copy and paste my dvdidentier log and noticed DVD+R on the booktype.My setting still says dvd-rom for +r/+rw/and +r DL.
I'll try ticking the solid burn-activated box and test out on a +rw disc.I've got no compatability issues because of this,but want to make sure they are actually booktyped.

how are my Benq 1640 brothers doing these days? good i hope...
anyways, ironically, i TOO had this problem w/ the Q Suite, i updated to v2.1 when it was released, but, i too have a NOW unplayable DVD+R DL in my standalones~ :)
it's weird, kind of a waste of a DL disc considering NONE of my stand alones will even read it...it does play just fine on my pc, but, what's the point of watching a movie on the pc? LOL
anyways, i'm keeping an eye on this thread as i have yet to find a solution for this...i rely on DVD Decrypter SOLELY for my DVD+R DL burns...had too many problems w/ Nero on the layer break in the past, so, i'm NOT going to go back to that again...
catfreak, so going back to v.2.0 remedied the booktype problem for you? maybe i should try that too~ it's frustrating when i kinda "waste" a DL disc that remains DVD+R DL and no booktype is present...can't play it on ANY of my standalones...irritating to say the very least... :(

i agree on the booktype... i havent found a simple way of doing it at all.. i'm on mac. so i cant do it.
i did get some suggestions on taking out the drive.. sticking it into a pc.. and flashing it.. but that may ruin the drive.. not willing to do that..
i did burn one DL disc.. i did get the plus format.. i havent tested them in standalones. the only players i have are on the two computers.. which of course.. they play fine..
we'll see..

Here's how to check your DVD+R, DVD+RW and DVD+R DL if it's been successfully book typed.
*** How to check via DVD Decrypter ***
*** How to check via DVD Identifier ***

@Mort81
It's "Paint" (under Start, Programs, Accessories, Paint) that I used. I have more experiences with Adobe PhotoShop CS/CS2 when I want to fix, edit, touch-up or clone any image/picture, but for snap/screen shots, I'll use Paint because it's pretty easy to use.
Look at picture below for reference - hope you'll have a clue now.

Thanks alkohohol, I've played with paint a little but didn't realize you could get that fancy with it. Hell I barely knew what a desctop pc was 5 years ago. I'm from that era that didn't have much exposure in school. My HS got it's 1st apple my senior year. Before that it was this huge cabinet setting in the middle of the room with terminals in all directions.

Thanks for the paint settings alkohol. I use paint all the time as my screen capture program. Just started using lines in the pics, and hadn't figured out the fancy stuff yet. Now im gonna be a better image illustrator. :)

@Alkohol/MaxBurn
So, you guys just take a "print screen shot" and put it in paint to do the fancy stuff?

@tsquare
Yep... that's it. Just take a "print screen" and paste in Paint, cut or crop whatever you need and do whatever you desire to edit then save it as JPEG or PNG.

Hey guys, I know this is off topic: But after the screen shot,the pic is in bitmap format. Way too big to post on AD if you are like me and have dial up. How you transfer it to jpg to reduce that size for xp-home?
Right now,I use the free version of clipmate7.
Thanks!

I'm using the Gadwin Print Screen (free)
http://www.gadwin.com/printscreen/?prnscr
I set the properties to .png per temj's recommendation. He says it produces a better quality image than a jpg. Also better sized for this forum.
Great to know about paint though - Thanks. I do mine in PaintShop Pro.

Changing image type is real easy with paint. All you have to do is select as shown below when you go to "Save file as"
I was saving to JPEG image before, then i saw temj suggest .png and it is much better than jpeg in terms of image quality and smaller image size. Follow the mini-guide we just made with this post, and you will be a paint posting pro in no time :) Just remember to keep your image width down so you don't throw off the formatting of the AD site. Enjoy!
Edit** had to include some pictures of Mort81's highschool computer pictures..LOL
Just kidding mort81. i am probably older than you, but just couldn't resist posting pics of your highschool computer :) See the PC wasn't even invented yet, when i was in HS.. :)
is that you at the terminal mort81?
Whole net seems to be going slow so here's a direct link to that last pic.. :)
