I recently bought a used PS2 off eBay with a network adapter, hard drive, and Final Fantasy XI. I then bought HDAdvance 3.0 but when I run it, it freezes at the splash screen even though it's supposed to be guaranteed to work with the official PS2 hard drive. I tried it with an 80gig Maxtor but had the same problem. Do the hard drives need to be formatted before they will work? Or is there some other cause that I can't think of?

I have never formatted them myself as the system didn't come with the PS2 hard drive utility software. Is that what I need to format them and get them working?

i think they need to be formatted. ive been doing some research on hdloaders cause i been thinking of getting one my self. and some of the problems in forums was that people needed to format their drives. hope it helps at all.

The reason HDADVANCE freezes is because of a conflict between your hdd and your network adaptor, I think. HDadvance when it gets past the slash screen will prompt you to format the drive how it needs it.

A conflict between the network adapter and the hard drive does seem to be the most likely explanation for why HDAdvance isn't working, but that leaves the question of why there would be a conflict between my network adapter and an official hard drive. Any suggestions on how to fix this, or will I have to get a new network adapter?

I think on hdadvance.com it says about the conflict, and i dont think theres a fix for it ecxept a new network adaptor. But you would think it would work with the officail hdd.
